Cinderella

Right now I feel like Cinderella, and it's quickly approaching midnight.  :(

Today was one of the most AMAZING days of my life. I wish I could share it all with you now, but unfortunately, I have to spare most of the details of my Dr. Oz Show experience until after it airs. And I STILL don't know when that is going to be!

The flights were uneventful--yay! I didn't even take any Xanax. I was worried it would make me too tired when I got to the studio, so I endured the flight without it. The flight was only an hour and a half. I was completely in AWE when I was flying into La Guardia airport. I could see the city perfectly, and it was amazing:

I was completely overwhelmed by the enormity of the city. I've been to NYC once before, but I was only 16 years old--not old enough to really appreciate the hugeness of it.

The whole 24 hours that I was there went by so quickly!  I met some AMAZING people--all the producers, and some of the technical crew, and the hair stylists and make-up artists. I couldn't believe how much work went into the show. I also met a woman named Jennie, who is the first guest that will appear. Her story was unbelievable, and nearly made me cry before it was my turn on set. I felt like my story didn't hold a candle to hers!

Right now I'm terrified of seeing the actual show. I wore a sleeveless dress, and you know I hate my arms. So I just hope they don't look absolutely horrible. But the dress situation was awful, and I will explain all of it later. All my friends and family are super excited to watch the show--I'll be so embarrassed if I look ridiculous.

I ate really well while I was there. Actually, I under ate--not on purpose.  Yesterday, I just had a Larabar for lunch on the plane, then I didn't eat dinner until 6. I was at my hotel, so I just walked around the block and bought something to bring back to the room. I ate until I was satisfied, and ditched the rest :)  Then today, I was too nervous and then busy to eat anything all morning. I ate lunch at the airport at 2:00 pm. Then I had some chocolate covered almonds on the plane, and that's it for the day. I might have a snack now.

Anyways, on the plane today I wrote down (with a pen and paper--been a while since I've journaled that way!) all the details of the past two days, so I will share everything after the show airs.

When I arrived home, I went to pick up my kids from my mom's house, and was greeted with this:

My kids gave me flowers and were just about to make a Welcome Home banner when I pulled up :)

I wish I could leave my hair and make-up like this forever!!

  4. you look beautiful for having just come from a long plane ride - and very, very happy. So glad things went well. Don't mention the dress - no on will notice, I swear. They will be too busy looking at before and after shots, as of your lovely face. Glad you're home without plane incident!

I'm also positive that you're going to look and sound just fine when it airs. We're all our worst critics so no matter what, you'll not feel good about it but we'll all be proud of you.

What a wonderful and memorable experience for you! And it happened on a good day...a palindrome day (11022011...reads the same way backwards as it does forward). Very exciting! I'll be looking forward to learning the date of your debut on the Dr. Oz's show.

So SO PROUD of you, Katie!! DYING to know when it will air!! Did they give you ANY IDEA?!?! 2 weeks, a month, 6 months?! =/ I bet your friends and family are so proud of you too!

  11. Aww, that is sweet that they got you flowers. You're so brave for going alone-- I'm such a chicken when it comes to flying to big cities alone. Your hair looks fabulous! I hadn't checked your blog in awhile and I kept wondering when you changed your hair after I saw the picture. I'm glad all went great and can't wait to read about it (and to see the show)!

  12. wow GREAT picture of you.. i was going to ask if that was a new picture on the top right corner of your page... hahah guess it is!!! You look amazing, hon! I was just telling my dad today how I knew someone who was going to be on the Dr OZ show because somehow the tv got stuck on that channel after recording something else we watch I guess. I've never actually seen the Dr Oz show before today and only seen a little random bit of it today. lol. Can't wait to hear when your show will air!!

Also, I got my Gocket today - thank you! The boyfriend thought it was a bit random, but I love it :)

  19. How exciting! Glad the flight was uneventful. I've saw your picture when you conquered your fear of flying (in that open plane) Not sure how anything could scare you after that! LOL
I'll be looking forward to seeing the show. Your boys are so thoughtful! You must be proud of them. Pat

  20. So glad you made it there and back uneventfully (not counting the fantastic middle part!). I can't wait to see the show air. My gf has been in the audience and on the show several times with her gf. It seems when they need an "assistant for the day" they now have their #'s on speed dial. That's a great benefit of living within an hour train ride of the city! Anyway, it's usually about 2 weeks before it airs. Where did you stay? Or is that something for the after-show blog?

I was SO annoyed yesterday! I watched The Nate Berkus Show and guy Fieri co-hosted. The audience got my Kitchen Aid mixer that I have been coveting FOREVER along with a Vita Mix blender and a whole crapload of other gifts, totalling about $1500. I had tickets for one of the 1st days of taping last year, his 1st season, and got NOTHING!!!!! PISSED!

  27. I'm a new follower (just found you a couple days ago) and I can't wait to watch! You are inspiring to me! The weight loss is great...but I'm super inspired to stop binging and do what you just did...eat till I'm satisfied and throw it away. Can't wait to start following you as you continue this journey. I've lost about 30 pounds and have a stubborn 20 left to go...but I'm working on it!

  32. Katie, you look so gorgeous and I love your hair. I'll bet it was so much fun getting done up by 'hair and make-up'. I'm so excited to hear about your adventure. Off to add Dr Oz to my TIVO. I don't want to miss your episode!

I've only been to NYC once and it was in May 2001. We stayed in the Millenium Hotel which was right next to the Twin Towers (I wish I had paid more attention, but they were just another two giant buildings in a sea of other giant buildings)
I would love to go back one day!

  37. Sounds like a wonderful day. And your boys got you flowers! AWWWW--they're so sweet. Like everyone else I can't wait to see the show--keep us informed when the4y tell you what day it will air.
I have been to NYC just once, and I was only 15, but I thought it was an amazing city and I have always wanted to go back.
When I had my hair and makeup done for the cookbook shoot (and it was done by a beautician from a small town in Nebraska, nothing like what you had done for a BIG TV SHOW!), I loved it too. It was a Sat. night, and I really wanted to go out on the town, but hubby was happy to stay home all evening and rest up after our long drive to the middle of nowhere. Oh well, I have pictures for proof and you will soon have a TV show for your proof. Can't wait!!

Also love the NY shots! I lived there for 15 years, but never saw the view from the air.

I CAN'T WAIT to see the episode of Dr. Oz with you and hear the whole story of your experience. I hope that they let you know soon when it will be on.

  46. I cannot wait to watch your episode! I even went to my DVR last night to go through the upcoming Dr. Oz episodes and read their descriptions. Sadly they haven't been updated with the actual content yet, but I'm going to keep a look out for it (not that I probably won't find out the date on here first, HA!).
I'm so excited that you finally were able to go and meet him. I know that as long as I've been following you on SP you've talked about wanting a new picture with him. I love when good things and dreams come true for good people!
You look amazing in the picture. You're very photogenic.
Well I hope they show your episode soon so you can post your blog about the experience. Isn't NYC amazing? I love the city. Not sure I could give up my yard, but the idea of living there fascinates me. :-)
Glad you had a good time!

I used to publish ALL comments (even the mean ones) but I recently chose not to publish those. I always welcome constructive comments/criticism, but there is no need for unnecessary rudeness/hate. But please--I love reading what you have to say! (This comment form is super finicky, so I apologize if you're unable to comment)
