I've Had It!

I'm in a very bad mood right now. Not due to depression or bipolar or anything like that. I'm just totally frustrated and irritable and I think it's best if I don't even write a post today.

The quick explanation: I feel like I have completely lost my ability to make any sort of creative project!

I am dying to make something, anything, and each time I try, I just can't get it right. Either I can't figure out how to use the serger correctly for what I have in mind, or I don't have the materials I need to build something with wood, or I just plain don't know what to make.

I know this is such a stupid problem and there are many more important things to think about, which is why I'm just going to leave it at this. I just spent hours in the garage trying to make something and I ended up staring at my materials most of the time trying to think about how to do it.

So, this is a downer, irritable, and bitchy post, and for that I apologize. But I'm just not in the mood to write.

To end on a lighter note, here are some Friends pajamas that I'd ordered a LONG time ago, hoping they would get here for Thanksgiving. The arrived yesterday. But I love them! I got Jerry a matching pair ;)

  1. Sorry to read that you're struggling to get back into your creative groove. But good on you realizing what is bothering you and not letting it become more than what it is. You'll rally back in a big way, I'm sure!

  2. Ah Katie, just give yourself a break. I'm a crafter, my craft is beadweaving though. I went through a "dry spell" of about 18 months a few years ago when I wanted to make stuff, but I had just lost my mojo and nothing worked or inspired me. Instead of beating myself up about it, I continued to buy patterns and sometimes beads but didn't actually try to make anything until I felt the time was right. And now I'm back to doing it daily again. We all go through periods like that I'm sure. One other thing to consider, have you changed your medication lately? I was on anti depressants at the time and I sometimes wonder if that contributed to it? I'm not on anything at the moment. I know that's not an option for you, but if you've had a change of dosage or meds, it may be a factor?

    1. Janine and Katie,
I really agree, I think a lot crafters go through dry spells and it's probably very normal. Especially when we are stressed. There's just a lot of outside things making us all feel unusually stressed and impatient. I think this may have a lot to do with our creativity being stifled. But don't worry, we will bounce back and come back stronger and more creative than ever...I can't wait to see what you do when you're back. :)

    2. Janine, I was thinking about my meds as well--I have a "virtual appointment" with my psychiatrist next week, so I'm going to talk to him about it. Feeling super annoyed when I wrote this post wasn't having to do with depression, but my mood has really been off-kilter lately. I'll see what he thinks!

Katstamp65, thank you! I have been DYING to work on something crafty but my mind is either totally blank or when I try something, it just doesn't work out. It's super frustrating. I hope I can come up with something creative soon! Or even if it's not creative, hopefully I can just come up with SOMETHING--haha! ;)

  3. Perhaps you might consider "interning" with a carpenter while the boys are in school to pick up some new skills and assist on his/her projects. Just an idea while you are feeling this way.

    1. That's such a cool idea! I never thought of something like that. I would have no idea where to even start looking for something like that, but I can ask around. Thanks for the suggestion!

  4. I’m feeling ya! I’ve been the same for a pretty long while. Not sure if you are the same but for me, I mostly want the feeling of having made something awesome but don’t really have the energy or patience to do the work. Then the shortcuts I take result in a less desirable finished product, which almost convinces me that I can’t do anything at all!. Lol

Be gentle on yourself. Take a rest. Remake something you make well to get your mojo back.

    It will come!

    1. YES! That sounds exactly like me. I want to make something creative and fun (like when I made the squirrel picnic table--that's probably my most viewed post of all time) but I just don't have it in me to properly choose and prepare a project. No matter what it is. I completely understand what you mean. Thank you! <3

    1. I bought them on a website called popcultfamily.com. It was one of those sketchy Instagram/Facebook ads where you really don't know if you're going to get what you pay for! Haha. And the shipping took FOREVER--like two months! However, the quality is really nice and I'm glad I got them :)

  7. I hope this will make you feel better but you have already completed so many more creative projects than most people -- especially in the past year! I am always so impressed with what you're able to build, sew, etc. and am certain you will get your mojo back soon. (And personally the mask you were so generous to send me/I was lucky to receive is my favorite covid mask! It's so well-made, pretty, and comfy. :) )

I used to publish ALL comments (even the mean ones) but I recently chose not to publish those. I always welcome constructive comments/criticism, but there is no need for unnecessary rudeness/hate. But please--I love reading what you have to say! (This comment form is super finicky, so I apologize if you're unable to comment)
