Transformation Tuesday #9

I'm SO excited to bring back Transformation Tuesday! And I can't thank you enough to everyone that sent in transformation pictures this week--I am going to post 3-4 per week (in the order that I receive them) so if you've sent one, I will get to it. Please keep them coming so that I continuously have content for these Transformation Tuesday posts!

(Don't you love the disguises I made for Duck on the title photo? I needed to think of a creative "transformation" idea for a title photo, so it was fun to use Duck as my model!)

Here we go...

Our before and after. Our basement family room wasn't used much, so we transformed it into an indoor play area for our kids!

I have two transformations for you:

Fireplace makeover: I have wanted to convert my fireplace to gas logs since I moved into my house. Well, as I was looking at my fireplace and mourning the loss of a trip I didn’t get to go on in 2020, I decided to give it a full makeover. I painted the inside and had someone install the tile and finally had the logs installed. It’s so beautiful!! Also  added a picture of my cat, Millie, in her Santa house observing the new fire.

Refrigerator: my 19 year old fridge had seen better days. It still worked so I took my time finding the right fridge that would fit in the space but also had an interior water dispenser. I ordered the refrigerator in May and it finally arrived on 12/31. So yay!!!

After pricing out replacement cushions for my oversized patio furniture I decided to order new custom foam inserts for the bottom cushions and shredded foam fill that I could add to the back cushions. My furniture is like new for a tenth of the cost!

This may be cheating a little, because this was not actually a submission... but it's about my dad, and I just have to brag about him for a little bit! Several years ago (when he was in his 50's) he loved watching old episodes of Bob Ross. He wasn't an artist, but he decided to give it a try after watching Bob do it (Bob makes it look so easy, right?!).

So, he bought some materials and started fiddling around with oil painting. I was impressed with his first couple of paintings, but he cringes when he looks at them now--haha! He's gotten SO good since he started, and now he's had some family members request paintings from him. I have a couple in my living room and I get compliments on them all the time!

Anyway, I walk past my parents' house every morning and sometimes I stop in to say hi. Lately, my dad has been working on more paintings, and it's been fun to see the progress of this one--I've taken a picture each time I've been there. So, here are a few pictures from blank canvas to finished painting! (He even makes his own picture frames from reclaimed wood!)

And just for fun, here is a photo of him wearing a few Bob Ross gifts we've given him here and there... pajama pants, shirt, socks. And then of course, Bob Ross is on the TV in the background ;)

He sent me a text to say he's "currently accepting requests for commissions, haha"--and I have no idea if he was joking, but I definitely think he should start selling his paintings. They're amazing!

I've loved checking out the transformations this week, and I hope you enjoyed them, too :) Remember to please keep them coming.

To share a transformation on a future Transformation Tuesday post, you can send it in an email to: Katie (at) runsforcookies (dot) com, with the subject "Transformation Tuesday". Please include at least one before picture and one after picture (separately--I may or may not collage them, depending on how they'll work into the post). Tell us a bit about the transformation--a couple of sentences to a couple of paragraphs. And please include your name, location, and what you like to do!

Remember, I'm going to post 3-4 each week in the order I receive them, so if you don't see it right away, it'll be posted soon!

    1. I'm super impressed with him, too. I'll have to show some of his earlier paintings versus his current ones. It's amazing how far he's come!

    1. He's worried that nobody will buy his paintings and he'd be embarrassed. I LOVE the ones I have in my living room and I would totally buy them at an art fair or something!

  3. Your Dad’s painting is gorgeous! But my main comment is about you stopping by your parents house when you’re walking. I love that! I just know how much it means to us when one of our 3 boys just drops by to say Hi. Our oldest son is a marathon runner (he qualified for Boston if they’re ever able to hold Their marathon again) and if he’s running on a Sat. Morning at a park near our house, he’ll stop by and visit for a while. It means so much to us!!

    1. I hadn't thought about that, but I'm sure my parents appreciate it as well. My mom always gets excited when I stop over and my dad usually wants to show me stuff (his garden in the summer, paintings, etc.) That's great your son stops by when he's out for a run!

    1. I love that painting, too. I wish I had more wall space to hang more. I need a huge one for my bedroom, but most of them are less than 24" or so. I'll tell him you like it :)

  6. Oh my gosh - the fridge transformation! There is nothing better than cold, cold water. This transformation would make me beside myself with excitement at my house haha. Love the fireplace too!

The kids play area looks absolutely incredible, well done!

I used to publish ALL comments (even the mean ones) but I recently chose not to publish those. I always welcome constructive comments/criticism, but there is no need for unnecessary rudeness/hate. But please--I love reading what you have to say! (This comment form is super finicky, so I apologize if you're unable to comment)
