Weekend Plans and Yummy Oatmeal

I woke up this morning feeling like I could have slept another five hours. I was SO tired! But I had to get up and get the kids ready for school. Once they left, I had a very hard time talking myself into running. I kept thinking, "I could just skip it, since I ran 12 on Tuesday..." or "Maybe I'll just wait until this afternoon..." and all the other excuses that popped into my head.

Normally, I run before I eat breakfast, but I was all about procrastinating this morning, so I ate breakfast first--my usual lately, oatmeal with caramel, peanut butter, coconut, and chocolate chips. I look forward to breakfast every morning because I absolutely love that concoction!

(Since someone is sure to ask, this bowl has 273 calories--33 grams of oats (cooked in water), 13 grams of Marzetti fat free caramel dip, 7 grams each of peanut butter, coconut, and chocolate chips). I always have fruit with breakfast too, usually a banana.

I had a Weight Watchers meeting at 10:00, so I couldn't put off my run for too long; finally, I got on the treadmill at around 8:30. I chose the treadmill today not because the wind was atrocious outside, but because I've been dying to see the next episode of Breaking Bad. When I started watching that show a couple of weeks ago, it was so good that I told myself I could only watch it while on the treadmill--that way, I'd have something to keep me from dying of boredom.

It definitely made my treadmill time much more enjoyable today! I ran four miles, and it wasn't bad at all. I was still very glad to be done, but watching Breaking Bad was definitely what I needed to get through the run today.

When I got off the treadmill, I quickly showered and dressed and headed out the door. When I weighed in at Weight Watchers, my weight was up on their scale (no doubt because I was very well-hydrated this morning). Thankfully, the receptionist just said, "You're up a little this week, Katie," without making feel badly about it.

At the meeting, I finally raised my hand to share a "bravo" of my week--the Virtual 5K! I've been so excited about the 5K, because I had no idea how emotionally involved I would get with it. I absolutely LOVED reading all of your stories and seeing the pictures you all posted, and it made me feel so good! I tried to explain it at my meeting, but I don't think anyone really understood why it was such a big deal to me.

After my meeting, I went to meet Jessica for coffee. She said that she got emotional while reading all of the 5K stories, too--it was so inspiring to see all the people do something they didn't think they could do. She gave me a birthday card saying that she's going to buy me lunch at La Pita--yum!! So tomorrow, Renee is picking me up and we are going to meet Jessica and another friend Amy for lunch at La Pita. I know I just went there last week, but I love La Pita so much that I would go there every week if I could ;)

I actually have fun plans for Saturday, too. My high school friends are having a get-together/reunion! I have no idea who planned this, but it just came about a few days ago. The group of people I was friends with in high school, and spent most of my time with, was self-named "The Kindred Klan" (some of the guys formed a band named Kindred, and the rest of us were groupies). I still see them now and then, but never together all in one place--so I'm really excited! I've never gone to a high school reunion, nor do I care to, but a Kindred reunion (at a Mexican restaurant with amazing margaritas!) sounds great to me :)

I'm going to try and squeeze in a long run tomorrow morning, so that I can have extra PointsPlus to get me through the next couple of days. My plan (right now) is to get up at 4:00 and run on the treadmill before getting the kids up for school. However, my plan may change at 4:00 when it's time to get up! We'll see ;)

    1. It is SO good--not super healthy, but not junky, either. The best of both!

    2. How may PP is your oatmeal?

    3. Carrie I made this oatmeal similar to hers last night, and my count for mine (without caramel sauce and with 1/2 cup uncooked oats--whole serving) was 8 pp. Hope that kind of helps! :)

  2. I was at a total loss of what to make for dinner tonight, and I have only had oatmeal once since starting WW, so you totally persuaded me to make your oats tonight for dinner. Oh dear goodness, so good. I don't have any caramel sauce on hand (boo!), and used sunflower seed butter (not boo!), and it was so good. So thanks for the dinner prompt ;)

    1. Oooh, I love sunflower seed butter! Sometimes I'll have oatmeal for dinner when I'm on my own. I can't believe I ever used to dislike oatmeal!

  3. I ditto the above and think I will need to be purchasing the caramel and coconut to add to my steel cut oats and peanut butter. YUMMM-O! I think anyone would be excited for breakfast when looking forward to that. Someday soon I would like to try a 5k. Even if I walk it. I have no treadmill available to me so it will have to be outside. LET THERE BE SUN IN THE PNW PLEASE! haha
    :)

    1. You should definitely try a 5K--walk or run! There is something about that number that makes it feel special. That was a big goal of mine, to be able to run 5K. You can do it! :)

  4. Wow 7 grams of peanut butter. Isn't that only about a teaspoon worth? That's not much....how do you do it?

    1. It's half a tablespoon--sometimes I use a whole tablespoon, sometimes I skip the peanut butter altogether, depending on how many PP I want to spend. But half a tablespoon goes a long way when it's drizzled on, rather than just a small clump ;)

  5. Do you choose to weigh in every week? As I understand at lifetime you only have to weigh in once a month. I would get annoyed having someone point out any ups and downs once I'm in lifetime because it doesn't matter as long as I'm below goal. I'm not even a fan now because I'd rather just read it on the card, and I usually know what to expect based on my week anyways.

    1. You're right, I had actually forgotten that I only have to weigh-in once a month. Ups and downs are a part of maintenance, so I think I would rather weigh in just once a month. I'll ask about it next time I go. Usually, I just walk in and hand them my book and hop on the scale, out of habit.

  6. Completely jealous that you have a treadmill at home. I have a gym membership, but there are days when it would be soooo much easier to be able to stay home.

    1. I don't know what I would do with the treadmill! During the summer, when the kids are home from school and Jerry is at work, I can't just go out for a run whenever I feel like it--so it's a great option! Not super fun, but it works ;)

  7. I do the oatmeal 5 days a week I think but I've never added the pb.

    1. I didn't used to use PB, but now I've gotten in the habit of it--I love it!

  9. Breaking Bad is so amazing. You've definitely made a good choice of stimulating entertainment to watch while you run. I was hooked after the first episode.

  11. I've been eating your oatmeal concoction for a week now and I LOVE it! I use half a cup of oats, tbs peanut butter, choc chips and coconut. Mine is about 340 calories, but I have more calories to use up and it's so satisfying :)

  14. I was on the committee that helped plan my 25th high school reunion. I was the person everyone sent their updated information sheet to, and I put it all together into a booklet, and made copies for everyone. I was VERY involved in the PLANNING.

But all along, I knew I wouldn't actually GO to the reunion. At my weight, it would have just been too humiliating. When the day of the reunion came, I feigned illness, took all the stuff I had put together to my neighbor (who graduated from high school with me, and WAS going to the reunion), and stayed inside all day, so my neighbor wouldn't catch on to my lie.

I just missed my 40th reunion...in that I was still FAT then (in 2009). Sometimes I wish my 50th reunion was sooner. I'm still so afraid of regain that I don't know if I can make it 6 more years at my current weight. But I'm going to try. Have fun at your mini-reunion Katie and SHOW OFF that beautiful BOD!!!

  16. Ok, I really hope you answer this question because I am going crazy trying to find that damn caramel dip. I went to their website and apparently Kroger carries it, I never shop there but made a special trip today just for the caramel. I went up and down every aisle and couldn't find it! I thought maybe it was in the produce section next to the pre-cut fruit but nope!
What aisle do YOU find it?

    1. Hi there! I've always seen it in the produce section. At my Kroger, it happens to be on a shelf across from the bagged salad, but I imagine it would be somewhere in produce. I would ask an employee! :)
