Jerry made Lifetime!

I'm so glad I did my long run yesterday. Since Jerry was off work, we got to spend the day together and it was really nice to relax! We drove the kids to school, and from there we went to Wal-Mart for a few things while we waited for Weight Watchers to open.

While we were at Wal-Mart, I spotted these:

I haven't eaten Pop-Tarts in a really long time, but I used to love them (the S'mores ones, particularly). Quite honestly, I'm surprised that they've never come out with a peanut butter flavored one before! Next up will be peanut butter AND chocolate, just watch.

I couldn't help it--I bought a box. My kids eat Pop-Tarts sometimes, and I'm sure they'll like them. I'm going to have one, just to try it. I usually spend 5-6 PointsPlus on an afternoon snack, so I'll just eat one for a snack tomorrow.

After we left Wal-Mart, it was time for Jerry's big weigh-in at Weight Watchers. He reached goal six weeks ago, and if he was at/under goal today, he would make "Lifetime" status--meaning he wouldn't have to pay for a membership anymore, and he could have free e-tools (the online access to the program).

We already knew he would do it. This morning at home, he weighed in at 168, which is 11 pounds below his Weight Watchers goal. That's a grand total of 85 pounds lost!

I made him pose for a quick picture--I think I am even prouder than he is about it. Anyway, we went in, and he weighed in under goal, and earned his Lifetime membership. Now, he just has to do the same as me--weigh in once a month, no more than two pounds over goal weight, and he will continue to be a free member.

While we were there, he bought an ActiveLink. He's seen how much I like mine, and wants to try it out, also. So now he'll begin the one-week assessment period before he starts earning his Activity PointsPlus.

I asked how he wanted to celebrate, and we decided to go to La Pita for lunch. Remember how I forgot the hummus I'd paid for last time I went there, and the manager said she'd send me a gift card? Well, she sent me a $15 card! I was expecting a $9 card, because that's what I paid for the hummus. It was so nice of her, and we were excited to use it.

I got the chicken tawook sandwich today, and it was amazing! It was a pita with grilled chicken breast chunks, pickles, and garlic sauce--sounds like a strange combo, but it all went so well together. Jerry got the chicken schwarma sandwich, and we shared a small order of hummus. I think I actually like the chicken tawook sandwich better than the lunch plate I used to get.

We saved enough room for some self-serve frozen yogurt afterward, too. We don't have any self-serve fro-yo places near us, and since we were in Dearborn already, it was hard to resist when we were just down the road from one! I got a tiny bit of about five different flavors of fro-yo, and then put way too many toppings on it. I couldn't decide which toppings to choose, so I put all kinds of different ones. I ran out of room, or I'm sure I would have put more.

To give myself a little credit, those were actually the smaller sized cups, so it could have been worse ;)  Needless to say, we were both very full after that, and decided to call that our lunch AND dinner. Our lunch and frozen yogurt came out to 35 PointsPlus! But considering I didn't have a long run treat yesterday, it worked out well.

I asked Jerry if he'd write a guest post about his weight loss, but he said he has no idea what to write. Do any of you have questions for him? I think he'd do better with a Q&A than he would just writing a post. It's been a long journey for him, and I'd love for him to be able to show off his accomplishments a little!

I know I posted his comparison photo before, but I just love his transformation...

  1. Congratulations to Jerry! He looks fantastic! And I am a complete sucker for those frozen yogurt places. We have like 3 of them within 10 minutes of my house. So good!

  3. Congratulations to him! Are you sure e-tools is free for lifetime? I am lifetime but was told I still had to pay if I wanted to use e-tools.

    1. I am Lifetime and every month when I weigh in, I get a card with a code # on it and I have to enter the code before the expiration date from the last card and it is free.

    2. Thanks! I don't go to meetings anymore so that explains it.

    3. Yes, what Lorenda said is correct. I get a card when I weigh in each month, and I just have to enter the code for free e-tools. We still have to pay for the ActiveLink subscription though, which is $5/month.

  4. That's so awesome! So happy for Jerry - it's so amazing when the hubby's join the journey!!

La Pita and Fro Yo… so jealous. Sounds like a perfect afternoon :-)

Questions for Jerry: Have you given up any of your favorite foods or have you just learned to eat less? Do you have trigger foods? What does it mean to you that you were able to follow in Katie's footsteps on this journey?

Sorry for all the questions! ;)

  5. One thing I'd love to hear from Jerry would be a list similar to Katie's 100 lb difference list, maybe not quite so long but from a male perspective, what are some of the major differences that he's seen?

  6. Congrats to Jerry! He looks great and younger! I can't say why... but we had those poptarts many months ago to *test*. We weren't very impessed with them, even my PB lovers were just meh about them. They have some that have chocolate frosting too, I have seen them around...

  7. Congrats, Jerry! Way to go!
My question: Now that you and Katie have achieved your weight loss goals, what lessons/messages do you hope to teach your children about healthy living? And how do you plan to do that?

  8. I have no doubt in my mind that your yogurt was the one on the left. Those toppings say it all!

    1. That would be correct ;) I chose all the peanut butter options (and cookie dough, of course!)

  10. Congratulations and job well done, Jerry!
A couple of questions I would ask is: As you lost weight and got closer to your goal, did your guy friends say much about it? (Women notice these things about each other; just wondering if men do and if they comment the way we do.)
Did any guy friends ever laugh when they found out that you go to Weight Watchers? (A man at my meeting talked about getting teased a few weeks back because WW is considered to be more of a women's thing.)

That's so exciting for your family! It's awesome you both achieved this while your kids are so young. Their view on food will be so healthy! WW has amazing tools!

Q: What is the biggest benefit you've seen or felt from getting healthier?

Q: Did you have to give up anything really difficult?

Q: What was your biggest challenge?

Congratulations to Jerry, that is so awesome! You guys are such an inspirational couple.
I'd like to know a bit about Jerry's journey; when and why did he start losing weight? What exercise does he do? What treats does he allow himself? Did he do the '10lb photos' like you did?

Jerry you're a hotty with a naughty body!

    1. Seriously how was your weight loss journey different from your wife - is male weight loss more metal, physical??

    2. What are your new health goals?

You look much younger and fantastic - congratulations!

My question is when Katie started losing weight and eating healthier were you upset, resistant, or sneaking food? Because my husband was all of the above when I began losing weight. He did not like anything healthy at all. He would go through drive thrus on the way home from work and was very irritated that I kept no junk in the house. It actually caused a lot of problems. Katie is very lucky to have a very good support system!

  16. What is your lunch like? Do you pack lunch? If so, what is typical for you to take? My husband wants to take healthier things to work, but he works with a bunch of guys who go out to lunch on a daily basis and snack on crap! He says he feels left out when he doesn't go with them and also says they make jokes about him trying to lose weight.

WOO HOO! Way to go Jerry! My question is do you have a binge eating problem like Katie? Are there any foods you avoid because you can't control yourself with them? Also, what foods have you discovered that you love since eating healthier?

    You look fantastic!

I am wondering if you were actually even trying to lose weight. Like were you actively watching your food portions, making better choices, and weighing yourself or did you lose weight by default? My fiance lost weight by default with me! He didn't have to exercise or anything like I did! Kills me!

    Great job Jerry!

Question: I was wondering if you had any measurements or sizing you could share with us from before/after? Do you have any of your old pants to put on like Katie to show how much you have lost? I love those kind of pics!!!

  21. He looks great! Great job on reaching lifetime.

My question would be how to get my husband to lose weight.

He was never overweight until a few years ago and then he just started gaining a few pounds a year. He's not obese or anything, but he needs to lose about 25 pounds. He started a crazy schedule at work this past year, and put on another 10 pounds in just a couple months. I don't care about how he looks, but I worry about his health. I can get him to work out with me, but then he eats all these unhealthy snacks. His overall eating is better, he just snacks too much. I've lost weight, and he's gained weight. In fact, most of the people I know have gained weight, and you'd think they'd lose weight seeing as how I've lost more than 150 pounds.

  22. hey way to go Mr and Mrs Rfc.
    Couple of questions.
How do I make my husband get better at eating healthy? He eats ucecream with his parents(Indian summer is bad) and then when I have my small daily dessert he wants a share in that too. In short he needs to lose 20ponds but he wont get serious about it.

Also ~ Has any one made rude comments to you because they are jealous? I mean something like this -Oh your face has shrunk...now you dont look as handsome/pretty.
Or so for how long will you do this??? Arent you skinny enough?

Thanks and Iam so happy for you guys.:)

Did you find counting points difficult? Do you have any male friends who have done WW or were you just inspired by Katie's example?

Great job, Jerry! How long did it take to lose the 85 lbs.? Did you use WW for your entire weight loss?

  25. You don't have the chocolate/PB Pop Tarts at your store yet?! I try not to eat Pop Tarts anymore but I HAD to get those. They were delicious and worth every calorie, if you ask me! :)

You're such an inspiring couple! Congratulations on all of your success.

Questions: Has Jerry always struggled with his weight? What did he find easiest and the hardest about this process? Why did he ultimately decide to lose weight?

I have a question or questions for Jerry. My husband and I are both trying to lose weight and so far he eats what I put in front of him, he doesn't really get that involved in doing it himself and I am trying to encourage him to be more involved. Other than Weight Watchers, what tools, blogs, information if any, did you use to motivate or educate yourself so you could make permanent changes in your life to keep the weight off? What's one thing or a few things that you have done that were made the most difference?

I have really enjoyed Jerry's guest posts, hope he decides to do another one!

  28. I have a question for Jerry-is tracking your food something that you enjoy or is it more of a hassle? Does Katie play a part in your tracking or do you do it all yourself?

(my husband was on weight watchers for awhile, and it seemed like he would do really good when i did most/all of his tracking for him and the food was just in front of him to eat. but when i got busy and it was more on him, it didn't go very well.)

Question for Jerry-- What's your next goal? Katie always has goals for herself, I'm guessing you have some up your sleeve??!! Congrats to both of you for all your hard work!!

  31. Wow, he looks so wonderful! Both of you guys are such a good looking power couple!

Whenever I get froyo, it gets so big so fast! I always want to try "just a little" of each flavor and before I know it, I have a huge monster of ice cream ;)

  33. Hi, Jerry. I hope you love your new activelink. I just did the assessment phase last week, and it feels like a LONG week of WAITING, but I am loving the first week of the challenge and all the fun graphs. congrats on the 85 pounds, but a HUGE hug for loving Katie through thick and thin and being a great support, not only for her, but for all of us who are really inspired and freshly determined daily by her life and posts. Thank you for taking care of her and your family. A family that wants to hang together and just do normal fun stuff and loves each other is as inspiring as anything.

  34. Congrats Jerry.....you should be so proud of yourself.....I am in the process of trying to lose....I've lost 16 pounds with many, many more pounds to go...my husband probably needs to lose 30 but he just can't seem to do it...can't seem to try....he is very active physically but his eating is awful.....his weight is centered in his belly mostly...which I know is a dangerous place.....I would just like to know as a man....how did you get yourself to do this?...stop the unhealthy snacking, stop eating the bad meals....????....I've tried to be encouraging without pushing.....I figure there is something I am missing from a man's point of view!!!!!

  35. Congratulations Jerry! I have a feeling Jerry likes to use his extra points for beer sampling. Have we ever heard Jerry's entire history in regards to his weight issue? Like, was he always overweight or did he gain in college...? Did he yo-yo diet (like most of us)?

    Congratulations, Jerry! You look amazing!

My boyfriend keeps losing and gaining back the same weight. I'd guess that he has to lose about 20 pounds. He does the starvation diet -- basically starves himself by eating very few calories each day. Then when he loses the weight, he goes back to eating his favorite junk foods. It doesn't help that he's an extremely picky eater. He absolutely won't touch salads, vegetables, fruit, yogurt, etc. He's a meat-eater and junk-food eater, through and through. Any tips on how to maintain a healthy way of eating that's sustainable for men?

  38. Congratulations Jerry! I do have a question! My DH is doing WW and is about 2 lbs. from 160 lbs which is his goal. I didn't realize you were allowed to go many pound UNDER your goal? I thought you had to stay 2 lbs either way of goal? Can you explain how this works?

I have lost about 28 lbs on WW now, but have a good ways to go yet. But I am happy for my DH reaching his goal in 5 months!

    1. All the materials I have explain that we have to be no more than two pounds over our goal weight; we can be more than two pounds below goal (assuming that we're still in a healthy BMI range), but WW encourages people to find a goal and stay within a two pound range (up or down). My Weight Watchers goal is 143, but my personal goal is 133. As long as I weigh in under 145 each month at WW, I am still a free Lifetime member.

Congrats to both you and your husband on the weight loss!!

    2. Ahh...ok got it! Thanks for explaining! I have not chosen a final goal...well I guess I sort of have but its so far away I try not to think that far ahead! I keep trying to do 20 lbs at a time! Thanks again!

  39. I was wondering the same thing as LoriU. The last time my leader talked about Lifetime she said you had to be within 2 pounds of your goal, either up or down. Is that no longer the case?
