Christmas 2012

Last night, we were getting the kids ready for bed, and Eli said, "Wait! We forgot to put cookies and milk out for Santa!" I paused and looked at him, because my boys have never believed in Santa. Then he laughed and said, "Oh wait, I forgot, there IS NO Santa!" We both started laughing, and I told him that the "Santa" in our house likes wine and chocolate ;)

He thought that was hysterical, and he asked if he could set that out instead of cookies and milk. So he carefully poured my wine and got out a Dove Promise; then he didn't want to leave Jerry out, so I helped him to pour Jerry's beer into a glass and put some pretzels in a bowl. He was so proud.
(Jerry and I each have the same snack just about every night--what you see in the picture).

The boys went to bed, and Jerry and I set out the presents for the morning.
I remembered that I had told Eli I would make cinnamon rolls for breakfast on Christmas morning, which requires some prep work. I also realized I didn't have any powdered sugar for the icing. Since the store was closed, Jerry went over to my parents' house to get the sugar, while I put the ingredients for the dough into the bread machine. We watched a movie while the dough was cycling for an hour and a half; then I had to roll it out, spread the filling on it, roll it up, and slice it. Way more work than I wanted to do on a "relaxing" Christmas Eve! But I knew Eli was excited for the cinnamon rolls.

In the morning, I just had to throw them in the oven. I woke up at 6:00, and Jerry was up at 6:30. We sat around until 7:00 waiting for the boys to wake up! They never sleep that long, and I was sure they'd be up at 5:00. They opened their presents and were thrilled, of course. We got Eli a lot of Army stuff--toy jeeps, tanks, soldiers, etc. And Noah had been asking for Beyblades for a long time, so we got him some of those with the accessories. We also got them some games for the Kinect, a couple of board games, giant Hershey's bars... and by "giant", I mean, "the world's largest":
After presents, the boys wanted to play with their new stuff, of course, so I headed out for a short run. I just had three miles on the schedule at an easy pace. I saw that we actually had snow on the ground (just a tiny bit), so I was excited to run outside!

Once I got out there, though, I realized that the streets were coated in a thin layer of ice under the snow, and in a lot of spots, there wasn't even snow on top of it. As evidenced by my pace, I had to be very careful while I was running, and at some points, I felt like I was tip-toeing. I really enjoyed running in the first snow of the year, though!
I felt it was only appropriate to wear green and red, of course :)  I finished the run and headed inside for some breakfast (oatmeal for me, since the cinnamon rolls were about a billion calories each).
We didn't end up going to the movies today (there wasn't anything appropriate for kids playing at our local theater, unfortunately). But we played with the kids, and watched a couple of movies at home. It was a super relaxing day. Estelle cracked me up, as usual. She loved watching the boys open their gifts!

It's been a great day :)  I just can't believe that Christmas is over! This week, I get to see Sarah, who is here from Arizona (staying with her parents). Then next week (!!) I leave for Florida.

    1. It wasn't any big deal, honestly--I got him a hoodie, some fleece pj pants, slippers, a mug, and a Star Wars video game. He got me pajamas, perfume, and an outfit from Victoria's Secret (real clothes, not lingerie, too! haha)

  2. I have to say that really made me smile, reading about your son putting out "treats for Santa". Also the pictures of the cats playing, makes me think of my little 2 year old niece today, playing with the boxes/wrapping paper and tossing all the toys aside. ;)

    1. It's funny how kids love boxes and wrapping paper more than the gifts sometimes! They're easy to please (until they grow up!)

    1. That would be my super-awesome fashion sense... I'm wearing black pants, black shoes, and white socks. I don't have black running socks! So I just tell myself, while getting dressed, "Eh, nobody will notice!" Hahaha, apparently people DO notice ;)

    1. Estelle is obsessed with boxes--I have no idea why she likes them so much, but she'll even squeeze into tiny ones.

    1. LOTS of chocolate! I chipped away at some of it yesterday, and then I told Jerry not to let me have any more, no matter what I say ;)

  7. Sounds like you "simply had a wonderful Christmas time," just like me! Those candy bars are humongous. I rely on my hubby to "have my back," too. It's easy to resent them when they try to help us resist temptation, but I have asked for his help and have decided I NEED IT! Glad Jerry has your back too! Merry Christmas to you and your whole wonderful family! You look great in your red and green running outfit! SO SKINNY! GO Katie GO!

    1. P.S. Estelle is hilarious. I especially love how she squeezed herself in that little narrow box. She is as funny as her character used to be on "Friends"!

Love the pic of you in the snow. It was 30°C here on Christmas day (86°F), humid & hot!
