Busy busy busy

Sorry I haven't written much this week. I've been super busy! My whole routine was thrown off because my kids started going to Vacation Bible School from 9-12 everyday. They had finally started sleeping in a little, so I was waking up early to read and comment on blogs, and write in my blog; then this week, with VBS, I've had to wake them up, get them ready and be out the door by 8:30, so I haven't had time for the computer. I've also been reading a lot--I accidentally requested 3 books from the library and they all came in at once, so I have to read them and get them back on time. I'm a SLOW reader, so I need every spare moment I can get.

Anyway, I've been doing terribly on my intuitive eating, and I really want to get back in focus today. I was thrown off when I went up north for a girls weekend, and then yesterday was Noah's birthday party (read: cake!) so I put the intuitive eating on the back burner for a while. I haven't gotten on the scale, and I'm thinking that I might just weigh in once a month while doing the intuitive eating. A lot of times, the scale dictates how I'm going to eat each day, and I don't want that to be a factor right now. But I'm kind of scared NOT to weigh, because what if I gain 50 pounds?!

It's been SO HOT here this week. Yesterday was almost 100 degrees, and today is not looking good either:

Needless to say, I will NOT be running outside today. I'll be doing a few miles on the dreadmill--usually 3 is the most I can do before I want to gouge my eyes out from boredom. Yesterday at Noah's birthday party, the kids were all pouring sweat, and actually went through a whole case (36 bottles) of water between 12 kids. They had fun though--they went for a hike and they played dodge-baseball, which was new to most of them. A lot of birthday parties these days are waaay over-the-top, and I just felt like going back to the basics and keeping it simple.
Playing dodge-baseball (like baseball, only with a big rubber ball and you can throw it to hit and tag each other out

It was a pretty stress-free party, which is always nice.  And afterward, Noah told me that it was the best birthday party he's ever had, so I'd call it a success!  ;)

Well, I've got to take the boys to VBS this morning, but I'm going to try and write some more later. I am also SO FAR BEHIND on reading blogs that I feel I may never catch up. Sorry about that!

  1. I am terrified not to weigh in daily, to be honest, but I'm starting to think it would be a good idea for me to learn not to. I have a friend on Spark who only weighs in monthly, and I'm thinking I might make September my month for trying out that system. I'm just hoping it's not a spectacular fail. I'm not worried about gaining right now so much as I am about not losing. If I don't weigh in for a month and then I just maintain...it's like a month wasted! But I hope that by now I can trust what I"m doing and trust Spark to have Jason hide the scale from me!

  2. I weigh in when I feel like a had a good day before....otherwise I'm too scared. I've also been doing Intuitive Eating for the past couple weeks and the scale gave me a 4 pound loss this morning:) Ive gained 20 pounds since my lowest weight (with the help of SP ) and I'm so sick of counting calories! 2 years of it was enough for me to throw it out the window and try something else. Something I feel so much better doing! I love it so far!!

I weigh myself about 10 times a day. It's a horrible habbit. I'm not sure I could make it a whole month let alone a whole day!

Way to go on the party. I agree that some parents just go way over the top. Kids just want to run around with their friends! Looks like you have a great yard for running around.

I LOVE my library and I was very upset yesterday to find out that it will be closing in October for 16 months for renovations! There will be a temporary facility but I know it's going to be down to the bare necessities, not to mention the 100-150 people that will be laid off until early 2013!

I've been weighing-in 2X/week. The mid-way check is to make sure I'm on track and the official number is whatever comes up on Saturday morning. I did lose most of the 74 pounds without counting calories, but I'm wondering if it hasn't become a bit of a compulsion for me the last 4 months. (I'm on My Fitness Pal)

VBS- do they win a goldfish if they memorize their scriptures? I did a very long time ago!!

  5. Good for you on the birthday party! I agree that there is no need to spend hundreds.

About weighing once a month....trust yourself. You will know if you are putting on weight.

I would love to know what blogs you enjoy reading. I'm always looking for new ones although yours is my favorite. :)

  6. Looks like a wonderful birthday party for Noah. These are things your boys will remember fondly all their lives! I am afraid to try intuitive eating. I'm pretty sure that if I did try it, I would gain those 50 lbs. overnight! Good Luck Katie!

I used to publish ALL comments (even the mean ones) but I recently chose not to publish those. I always welcome constructive comments/criticism, but there is no need for unnecessary rudeness/hate. But please--I love reading what you have to say! (This comment form is super finicky, so I apologize if you're unable to comment)
