On This Day: September 26

Jerry usually writes on Tuesdays, but he forgot about it and I forgot to ask him about it. I haven't done an "On This Day" post in a while, so I thought that would be fun. I always like to look at pictures!

September 26 apparently wasn't a very eventful day for me over the decades, but here are a few pictures...

2008 - This is when I was picking Noah up from preschool. That sweet face!

2013 - This is one of my very favorite pictures of Jerry. He was going to visit John in San Diego, and I took him to the airport at 5:30 in the morning. He'd designed that shirt to wear, and I love it.

2015 - The four of us at the Renaissance Festival

2015 - I can't remember what year I started coaching cross country, but I think this was one of our first meets. I loved these shirts Renee and I wore! I still have mine. (I'm not coaching this year because of how stressful everything has been over the last year.)

2017 - This was probably my most memorable cross country practice. The kids were complaining about the heat and we were doing sprints. I told them that whoever did extra sprints could pour water on my head. They got a kick out of that!

My heart! Little Duckling in 2020, when he was only about six months old.

2022 - Eli lifting an ungodly amount of weight at the gym!

(Almost) Wordless

A packed day today--meal planning, cleaning the garage, and Eli's baseball game. Jerry and the kids are all off school/work tonight, so I'm hoping for a game or movie night.

I wrote a fun post yesterday, so I'm going to just make this an (almost) wordless post. I searched my photos for May 1st, and realized that it was exactly eight years ago that I met up with my Ragnar SoCal team in Indiana!

We ran the Ragnar in 2014, and then most of us met up a year later for a reunion at the Indianapolis 500 Festival Mini Marathon. I would love to plan another reunion; seeing this picture makes me nostalgic. We had so much fun!

On This Day (April 10)

I hate to do another rather-nonsense post today because of the pre-written travel posts I did while I was at Jeanie's last week, but I literally have 30 minutes to get this done. I thought baseball season was exhausting when Eli was on JV--but now that he's playing varsity, it feels non-stop! I spent a week at my sister's house, then came home and had three double-header baseball games and now a single game today--within a week. Tomorrow is another.

If I was used to this kind of schedule year-round, I'm sure I would be a pro at it--but right now, I am still trying to adjust my days to center around Eli's baseball games. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it in a couple of weeks, but right now I feel like time is non-existent, haha.

So, I'll just share some photos from April 10 over the years...

This is one of my favorite pictures EVER. Some of my Ragnar "Sole Mates" team--clearly very cold by the ocean!

This is at the Henry Ford Museum

Noah showing Eli how to play with the toys on his bouncer

My dad with all of the Bob Ross gifts he got for Christmas. He taught himself to paint by watching Bob Ross and he's gotten SO good! It's amazing to see his first ones versus the ones he's done recently. I'll have to do a post about it.

Phoebe, the day before I had an appointment to have her put down. I was SO sad saying goodbye to her while she laid on my electric blanket. Then the next morning, she started eating again... and now it's a year later! She's still doing good--it's very hard to get her to eat, but I think she may be around for a while longer.

I just love this picture of Jerry and Joey smiling together

I walked into the kitchen to find Noah and Eli positioning Eli to look like one of his Army guys (Eli was OBSESSED with those Army soldiers that come in a bucket. For years, they were his favorite toy.)

One of our squirrels, using the picnic table I'd built.

And finally, this was the day that I reached my 10K goal of running a personal record. I worked SO SO SO hard to hit my goal (under 49:23) and I did it in 49:03!

Okay, I've got to rush to Eli's game and hope that tomorrow I'll be able to write a "real" post before ANOTHER game. I really do love watching the games--and today's weather is much better than the last week's has been.

On This Day (March 11)

Today was a busy day--we took Luke and Riley out for Luke's birthday. As has become tradition, we went to Barnes & Noble so they could pick out a "book" and then lunch/dinner somewhere. When I started this tradition, I literally meant a book; well, the joke was on me when they saw the toys section! Since toy stores are pretty much non-existent these days, Barnes & Noble it is--and they have fun toys there.

Noah and Eli came with us, which made me happy. It's so hard to get everybody on the same page with schedules! Jerry had to work today, but we made an afternoon of it. I am not up for writing tonight, so I'm going to just share some pictures from March 11 over the years. There are some good memories here!

This was in 2006 at Chuck E. Cheese. The band characters have always been the creepiest things ever.

This was when I was losing weight in 2010. Wearing a dress was kind of a "bucket list" goal, and I remember feeling SO good about myself at the time. I *think* I had lost about 75 pounds at this point.

Jessica and I enjoying our celebratory beer after running the Corktown 5K in Detroit in 2012. I obviously made our sparkle skirts for the St. Patrick's Day festivities!

In 2014, a love note from Jerry, attached to my tea.

In 2016, I went for a run (I think it was 10 miles, if I remember correctly) and I asked Noah to come with me on his bike. He carried a backpack with water in it for me. I love this picture!

Also in 2016... this was Jessica's birthday party at a Mexican restaurant. She, Renee, and I were pretty close then! I miss those times. We met at a Mom's Club--I have two boys, Renee has three, and Jessica has FOUR.

Jerry went to visit our friend Mike in NYC (also 2016) and I told him he should try the November Project workout while he was there--I had done one with Runner's World a couple of years prior and I knew that Ali Feller ("Ali on the Run") really liked those workouts (she was at the Runner's World event with me). I told Jerry to look for her at the workout, not even thinking for a second he'd actually see her--but he sent me this selfie at 7:00 in the morning :)

Sweet Luke--just a few days after he was born in 2017 <3

In 2018, Jerry and I went for a run and we randomly saw this dog standing on a fire hydrant. Haha! The owner was a dog obedience trainer and explained to us what was going on. (Basically showing that you can teach your dog to do anything with obedience training.)

A selfie from our run that morning.

This was from 2020--the toilet paper shelves at Kroger! Remember that mess?

On This Day (March 5)

As I mentioned yesterday, I just needed a break from the blog. I've been super productive getting things done around the house, though! I'm going to do another (almost) wordless post today and then back to the grind tomorrow with Jerry's weigh-in.

Here are a few pictures from March 5 in previous years. March 5 apparently wasn't a very good day for taking photos, because I don't have many. And the ones I do have aren't super exciting!

Eli LOVED playing Army when he was little, and his creative mind saw these Sorry! game pieces as cannons.

Jessica and I had a 13-mile run on the schedule when we were marathon training, and it was a bummer we wouldn't get anything for running a half-marathon. So, I made some Runs for Cookies half-marathon "medals" out of paper and ribbon, haha.

This is just an aviator hat that I made for Luke--he was born three days later.

And this is Duck with his paper balls. He brings them over to his bowl, but as you can see, they don't really make it in there! He's patiently waiting for me to pick them up and throw them again.

Okay, I'm going to continue to work on spring cleaning and I'll write a "real" post tomorrow!

March 04, 2023

On This Day (March 4)

I really need a mental health day (or two) from the blog right now, so I'm just going to do an (almost) wordless post today and possibly tomorrow. It's been a rough day So here are a few pictures from this day (March 4) in the past...

A note Jerry wrote on a Post-It and stuck it to my tea

Eli's first time getting his teeth cleaned at the dentist. He was SO excited for it! I love the way he's sitting, too.

Noah's first time as well... he wasn't nearly as excited, haha.

This was when Jerry and I were training for the Martian Half-Marathon in 2018

Okay, maybe I'll write tomorrow and maybe I'll just do another (almost) wordless post. Happy Saturday! :)

February 18, 2023

On This Day... (Feb 18)

I've been working reeeeally hard to get a post done in order to publish it today, but it's just not going to happen. It's going to be much longer than I thought! Anyway, I'm going to keep working on that now and *hopefully* get it posted tomorrow. Here is a photo (well, two photos) from February 18...

Joey loves to "catch" snowballs, and this was mid-catch in 2021.

Jerry, the kids, and me in 2007. I had just lost about 40 pounds, and I felt SO THIN in this picture, haha.

(Almost) Wordless: On This Day

I'm not going to write a post today. I've had an exhausting day! But I grabbed a few pictures from previous years' January 21...

These are a couple of side-by-side pictures from my Runner's World photo shoot. My friend Stephanie took some pictures of the photographer taking pictures of me--it's kind of cool to see them side-by-side. The background was just a large white piece of paper (we did the shoot at my mom's house). The pictures on the right are two of the ones used in Runner's World.

Here is Jerry shoveling snow in swim trunks (2015):

And here is a picture of Big Mama (2020). Sadly, we haven't seen her for the last couple of years. She used to be at the door every single morning waiting for nuts, before any other squirrels, and one day she just stopped showing up.

But I'm pretty sure several of her babies are "regulars" now ;)

Have a good night!

November 22, 2022

On This Day...

The post I'd planned to share today was taking SO LONG that it will have to wait. Instead, I decided to do an "On This Day" post--photos that I've taken on this day (November 22) throughout the years. These posts are always fun to do (or not, depending on how many photos I have) because I never know what I'm going to find. It's a fun trip down memory lane! And apparently, November 22 was a popular day through the years because I have several pictures.

The first is from 2004, when Noah was just four months old. I loved that little duck towel I would wrap him in after his bath!

This one is from 2009, and it's so cute! I have no idea what's going on here, because Eli was potty trained long before this, but it makes me think about putting the kids on the toilet seat and with them being so small, they look like they'll fall right in! I love how happy he looks :)

I look terrible in this picture. This was when I was recovering from my jaw repair surgeries. And the towel on my pillow! Haha, when the surgeon repaired my jaw, he had to cut the "labial frenulum" (the little band of tissue that connects your lower lip to your gums) and ever since then, I drool in my sleep. Fun fact ;)

Fast forward to a year later, and I was recovering from my skin removal surgery. These are my drain tubes--there were four across my abdomen.

I've always been a cat magnet, and with all the lying around I did after surgeries, they wouldn't leave me alone.

Later that day, I had a follow-up appointment with my surgeon. She may have removed my drains that day, but with the amount of fluid in them, I'm guessing probably not.

In 2012, I discovered how much Estelle loves canned pumpkin. I dropped a blob of it on the floor and she went nuts for it. So I gave her a little dish of her own.

In 2015, I guess I went for a run! This is when I was training for my goal 10K.

And then Jerry and I went to a family get-together (on his side). I can't remember what it was for, though. I'm pretty sure that's the only time in my life I've tucked in a shirt, and now I can see why! Hahaha.

Later, I put on my sock monkey onesie. I really wish I still had it! It was super comfy.

In 2016... Does anyone remember when "bottle flipping" was a thing with kids? They would toss water bottles in the air and try to make them land upright. It was SO ANNOYING--the noise that it made drove me (and probably thousands of other parents) crazy. This was my Facebook status--I don't know why I have a screenshot of it, but I'm glad I do. It made me laugh!

And in 2017, I'm guessing November 22 was a Wednesday, because here is a scale picture from my Wednesday Weigh-In. Interestingly, I am about the same weight today as I was five years ago. We won't talk about the in-between time, hahaha.

In 2019, I must have gone for a walk or run, because this is along my usual route. It's so pretty!

Also in 2019, I painted these trays... just a quick project.

In 2020, Duck lying in a sploot position--no matter how often he does this, I still laugh every time!

Also in 2020... playing Ticket to Ride during lockdown. My boys' hair hasn't been that short ever since. I miss when they had short hair! But they hate seeing pictures of it because it was "so ugly". I just can't get on board with the current trends in teen boy hairstyles. (Mullets? Perms? Why?)

This was in 2021--I remember wearing this outside, but I can't remember if it was a walk or a run. We'll just say it's a run ;)

And, finally, another one from 2021. This was just a project my dad asked me to do. He painted a board to use as a chess board, and he wanted there to be shallow grooves around each square to separate them better. So I used my router to do it for him. What I remember about that night in the garage was how COLD it was.

And there we go... I wish I had more pictures from the early years, but I guess November 22nd was uneventful back then!
