Wearable in public

I was actually a little disappointed that today was a rest day--I wanted to go run this morning. I know, what the heck is wrong with me?!

The weather has just been so great for running lately that I want to take full advantage of it. But I ran the last four days in a row, so I took today off. This morning was my weekly weigh-in. I'm going to start just doing my weight on a weekly basis, and save my body fat and waist measurement for once a month (since the change is so minimal on those).

Today's weigh in?
Sorry for the bad pic! I need to stop using my phone for scale pics
Today I was 135, so I lost half a pound this week. Doesn't sound like much, but being this close to my goal weight, half a pound is good! I'm now just two pounds from goal, so I could get there any day now :)

I went through my closet and tried on a bunch of stuff that I haven't worn in a while--namely my dresses. I was surprised (and delighted) to find that they fit really well now, and my Dr. Oz dress (the blue one I wore on the show) is actually pretty big! I had to wear Spanx to squeeze into that dress on the show. The dress I wore in Sarah's wedding is now pretty loose as well, and I could barely zip it (even with Spanx) on the day of her wedding a little over a year ago.

I was able to move all of my jeans into the "wearable in public" pile, and even get rid of some that were too big. This time, I have to KEEP THEM THERE, and have a very solid plan for maintenance. I'm going to try and follow in Stephanie's footsteps, and continue to count PointsPlus in order to stay at goal. I'll get to add some extra PP once I hit goal, but I will still be counting.

I made a really quick and good soup for lunch today. I've been craving cream of mushroom soup, but when I make it homemade, it's only good with a lot of cream in it. And that's about a million PP. So I just chopped up 8 oz. of mushrooms, and 6 oz. of leftover turkey and added it to a pot along with a can of cream of mushroom soup and a can of milk. That made two very filling servings, at 6 PP each. I was full for hours afterward, and the soup was SO good!
On Jerry's way to work today, the minivan broke down. That is sooo not good. It's super old, and we certainly didn't expect it to last forever, but this is a terrible time to have to worry about the car (just before Christmas, and our trip to Florida...). Jerry had to call off work for the very first time in TEN YEARS. He managed to get the van back home, but there is something really wrong with it. My dad is an auto mechanic, so he's going to look at it, but it's probably not worth fixing.

Jerry would have been getting a bonus at work for perfect attendance (they do that once a year in December), but today ruined that :(  Once he got the car home, he ended up going in to work with the Jeep, but he was an hour late--so the bonus is void.

We can technically get by with just the Jeep, but then I would be stuck at home for his entire 12-hour shifts. I would go crazy! A couple of years ago, we had to go an entire summer and part of the fall with just one car. The boys and I had to get very creative with things to do. And we called a bus to pick us up at home once in a while--the boys thought that was so fun! I did not ;)

But anyway, I'm just hoping that the van can be fixed. I don't know how soon my dad can look at it (we're always at the bottom of his priority list, since his "paying" customers come first, haha).

Tomorrow morning, I'm going to run and then go to my second Weight Watchers meeting. I'm still nervous to go, but not nearly as nervous as last time!

  1. I've had to share a car a lot. It was a lot easier when Charlie worked nights, so I would get the car in the morning, and it wouldn't really affect me. This really is a horrible time! I hope it's an easy fix!

And now I'm hungry for that soup. I'm going to have to try to make that. It looks so good!

  3. Congrats on getting into your "wearable in public" clothes! So funny we have the same kinds of piles at home. Keeping my fingers crossed the van is fixable and CHEAP!

  5. Wow, your really doing great losing all of that weight! I started to run when I weighed 160lbs, not a very smart thing to do. I'm only 5'5" and my normal weight is 120 lbs. so like you I started to improve on speed as I lost more weight and it will keep improving as you lose more. And it's so much fun to get into smaller sizes!

  6. What a great weigh in - even if it was just a half a pound less from last week! I lost count - how long ago did you start counting points to bring yourself back into your comfort zone?

I love the feeling of clothes getting looser or 'wearable'!! That reminds me that I have some stuff that NEEDS to get donated and OUT of the house for good!

Sorry to hear about the van! Hope it is something fixable to get through for a while longer.

  7. My husband told me the other day that he'd be surprised if his truck lasted much longer. I told him he better start looking for a replacement, because I need the car and there is NO WAY I am waking up all hours of the night to drive him to and from work (since he's always on call!) No way!

  8. Sorry to hear about the van situation! My hubby and I went thru a looong period of the 1-car family business. It was easier during the summer, since I am a teacher and didn't need the car as much, but it was SOOOO boring to just sit at home or rely on the kindness of others. Good luck!

  9. Half a pound is a great weight loss. When I go to WW meetings and say I just lost half a pound, my WW leader says a lot of members would trade the losing half a pound to gaining the half in a second. So true. I always think of this when I gain. Sorry to hear about the car, it is a pain when they breakdown.

  10. Is it possible to take Jerry to work/pick him up so you can have the Jeep while he's at work? Oh, and congrats on the half pound loss. Any loss is a good loss.

  11. Way to go! My goal is 135, so I'm super jealous to see you scale number today!

I wish I could run like you! My goal is to start running in the Spring/Summer. Right now, I have my 22 month old daughter and it's to cold to run with her in the jogging stroller at night or in the mornings - and my husband isn't home in the evenings to help out. I'm a new reader and your blog has been such an inspiration already.

Sorry to hear about your van, car situations like that can really stink, especially at this time of the year. I hope it's something fixable, if not, everything happens for a reason and maybe there's a better car out there for your family.

    Have a great day!

  14. You are doing great Katie. I'm amazed at your determination, even after the weather turns. When it starts getting cloudy and rainy here I tend to want to hibernate and avoid working out-- bad!!

I hate those perfect attendance incentives. I'm a nurse and they used to do something similar at the hospital where I used to work- they gave a little gift certificate to anyone with perfect attendance per quarter. Of course, all it does is encourage people to come to work SICK! Everyone gets colds and flus, especially in the fall and winter. They last thing you want (especially at a hospital) is for people to bring their illnesses to work. Attendance incentives are a big pet peeve of mine!! Grrrrr, can you tell? LOL

Sure hope your can can be fixed. How I hate car trouble. Our old clunker recently died and we had to get something "new"..new-to-us that is.

  15. Sometimes I use condensed milk when I make cream soups. It is thicker than regular milk and you can use the fat-free kind. Works very well!

I used to publish ALL comments (even the mean ones) but I recently chose not to publish those. I always welcome constructive comments/criticism, but there is no need for unnecessary rudeness/hate. But please--I love reading what you have to say! (This comment form is super finicky, so I apologize if you're unable to comment)
