2017 Summer Running Checklist

Can you believe that summer is just a couple of weeks away? I can't either. For the first time (maybe ever, but at least for several years) I am entering summer with a great mindset. My weight is just about a pound from my goal weight (which never happens in the spring); my mood is stable, thanks to the bipolar meds and good therapy; I have some fun things to look forward to; and I'm happier than I've been in a long time.

I need to take some more pictures. I don't have many at all these days! I have been doing the 1SecondEveryday videos, so here is a screenshot from one of them. Becky and Luke came to Noah and Eli's baseball game on Wednesday. Luke just sat there like a little angel watching the game. He gets cuter and cuter every time I see him.

Last year, I wrote a "Summer Running Checklist"--a list of different sorts of runs to do, like a Summer Solstice run, an evening run, a trail run, a Stone Age run, a Forrest Gump run, etc. There are actually 49 different runs on the list!

I've had a few people ask me if I was going to create a list for this year, and I hadn't really thought about it. But, since I haven't been posting much, I figured it wouldn't hurt to update the list and post it here for anyone who may be interested in doing the challenge. Most, if not all, of these can be done as a walker as well.

Anyway, here is a small screen shot of the list. The full PDF can be downloaded and printed for ease of filling it out.

Here is the link to download the PDF. It fits on two pages when you print it out.

Summer starts on June 21st, which is less than two weeks away! Since I'm not running right now, I obviously won't be participating in the challenge, but I love to see photos and thoughts of those who are. So, you can use the hashtag #CookiesSummerRunning on social media to share your progress (remember, if your profiles or pages are private, I won't be able to view/comment on your posts).

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Enjoy!

  2. I did the challenge last year with a friend and we loved it. I'm excited to try and get even more boxes checked this year.

  3. This is totally unrelated to this post but I love your new blog header!! Super cute! I'm taking a break from running right now (trying to focus on walking more) so I might try and attempt some of these with walks! Thanks for the ideas!

  4. I love your new header! I've never been a runner and I'm about 25 years older than you. That being said, I've read your blog constantly since about 2010 after seeing your video. I read now simply because you are an interesting read. I love hearing about your life, the kids, hubby and family. I have enjoyed your DIYs and even purchased a denim monogrammed key chain from you at some point. I'm super happy that you have an accurate diagnosis and good meds and I'm even happier that you are comfortable enough just being you and even changing the direction of your blog if you choose to do that. Your loyal readers will continue to read...Congratulations on LIFE Katie!!! You are doing great at it, in my opinion.

  5. Your header is confusing to me. I've read your blog for many years, and in all that time I've never thought of you as someone who has maintained their weightloss. You lost a lot, gained some back. Lost it again, gained it again. Year after year. Up to the 150s-160s, down to the 130s, and then back again. It's actually the definition of yo-yo dieting.

    1. Actually, I don't diet. It's more of a yo-yo lifestyle. ;)

    2. I think it's normal. Losing weight and maintaining weight is never a downward slope or straight line on a graph. It goes up and down all the time. Things happen, life happens. You are doing great Katie. In my opinion, your header could be anything and I would still enjoy your blog (many do!)

    3. I agree with Louise - growth doesn't happen in a straight line, and life has changes in store for all of us. Good for you for re-evaluating your goals and what you need to do to reach them! Thank you for sharing your journey, even if not everyone gets it. A lot of us do, and what you have to say matters. Besides, why would read a blog "for many years" if you're so critical? That says more about the reader than the writer.

  6. I love the new header. Not confusing at all. I've been reading since you were featured on spark and I love how open and honest and REAL your blog is :)

  7. Just noticed your new header....I like it and I don't think you yo-yo in the sense of "yo-yo" dieting. I think you needed time to figure out what else was causing difficulties in your life.

You have that diagnosis now and are getting back to your original plan of living a healthy lifestyle not being over 200 pounds...Keep it up girl!

I used to publish ALL comments (even the mean ones) but I recently chose not to publish those. I always welcome constructive comments/criticism, but there is no need for unnecessary rudeness/hate. But please--I love reading what you have to say! (This comment form is super finicky, so I apologize if you're unable to comment)
