Nut Butter Finds

It was a cold day in Michigan today! A high of 52 degrees, but I don't think it ever made it into the 50's.

Anyway, today is the start of week five on Weight Watchers--and Sundays are when Weight Watchers Online has me record my weight. Today I was 143.5, so I lost another 2.5 pounds this week. I'm very happy with that! I ate all of my daily points, all of my weekly points, and almost all of my activity points. I ate dinner out with the family, and I survived a birthday party. :)

I think I'm going to switch my weigh-in day to Wednesday. I've always had Wednesday as my weigh-in day, and I like that day better. So I may update midweek this week, and then weekly after that.

My mom has been dog-sitting for my little brother Nathan's dog, Bailey. The boys went to church with my mom this morning, so I said I would take Bailey for a walk. I brought her over to my house in the car, and then planned to walk her in the woods.

I had to bring her in the house for a moment so that I could get a bag to bring along, in case she pooped while walking her. When she came in, the cats didn't seem to interest her at all, but Estelle was hilarious.

All of her fur stood straight out from her body and she completely froze. Bailey was on a leash, so we walked through the house to the pantry, where I keep the bags, and Estelle was right on Bailey's heels. When Bailey would turn her head, Estelle would freeze again. Then when Bailey started walking, Estelle was an inch behind her. It was so funny to watch her!

I took Bailey through the woods, and I was freezing! I wished I'd brought gloves and a winter coat. Walking through the grass made my socks all wet, too. But Bailey had fun, so the walk was a success. I brought her back to my mom's and then made a quick trip to Kroger to get a couple of ingredients for dinner.

While I was there, I discovered two things: 1) Kroger now carries PB2! I've been buying it online since 2007, because I've never seen it in a store. I like that I can get it one jar at a time from Kroger now.

The second discovery was directly next to the PB2...

Justin's Nut Butters are Buy 1 Get 1 Free! That is so very tempting, because I would essentially be paying just $5 a jar rather than $10. I have a jar of each of those at home, however, so I resisted the impulse to stock up ;)

I made dinner in the crock pot, and it turned out so good! There are a ton of Crock Pot Italian Chicken recipes floating around out there, but here is how I made mine (as a pasta dish):

The creamy comfort food pasta dish was perfect for this cold day! I'm definitely going to be making that again.

I spent the entire afternoon trying to put together a Halloween costume for my wine club meeting next weekend. I have an idea, and it looks awesome in my head, but I'm not sure I can pull it off. I went to the dollar store to get some supplies, so we'll see how it works out. I can't share it until I wear it, however--that's one of the downfalls of having some friends read my blog!

Tonight is the perfect night to get cozy under my electric blanket with Jerry and watch the new episode of Dexter!

  1. I just moved recently, and I miss Kroger so much!!! I literally just texted my boyfriend and told him to buy me a jar of Justin's Nut Butter in each flavor so I can get them when I come home over Thanksgiving. I can't wait!

  3. Yumm!!! Any idea what the PointsPlus values are for it? I'm also on WW and am starting to get REALLY bored of the dinners I've been preparing lately and am always looking for new recipes.

Your grocery store finds look yummy!! I haven't seen them at Wegmans yet but I'm sure it won't be long.

  5. Good for you for eating pasta, don't worry too much this week about the weight, you need to eat your carbs and replenish your glycogen storage prior to the marathon.

  6. I saw (and tried) PB2 through Whole Foods, but then I bought it via Amazon for wayyy cheaper (and a bigger size - 1lb for around $10 I think, vs. 6oz in the smaller jars)

  7. I am super jealous that you have Justin's in your grocery store AND it was on sale??? I have to go to a specialty store 30 min away to get it and it's NEVER on sale! LOL... I'm ususally too cheap to buy it, so I opt for a few of the individual sized packs as a treat

    1. My store only got the Justin's nut butters within the past couple of months. We're always the LAST to get the trendy foods at our store, so I was excited when I saw it there!

  8. Going to Kroger today! Printed off a $1 coupon for Justin's on their FB page. Awesome.

  9. Hey Katie... I know you like the ColdGear Under Armour pants, but what about tops? I think you mentioned you like to wear past finisher race shirts, but what about now that it's colder? Maybe if you have a "slow news day" you could do a run down of what you wear outside at the different temperature ranges?

And wow... I would have jumped all over that buy one get one deal, you have more restraint than I do!

    1. I know someone else asked me this recently, but I couldn't find the comment! I really do need to write a post about it. But I wear race t-shirts with a fleece jacket over it when it's really cold (below freezing). For the cold fall temps we've had (40's) I wear a long sleeved technical shirt.

I always make it a point to dress so that I'm really frickin' cold when I step outside, because I know that after a mile or two, I'm going to be warm.

  12. Good morning. I have a silly question for you. Do you run outside when it's raining? If so, what type of socks do you wear. I lost about 70 pounds on WW and try and walk every day, even if it's raining. My problem is my feet get soaked because my sneakers have mesh tops. I know I could buy a different pair of sneakers but these are relatively new. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have. You are an inspiration to me!!!

    1. I wear the same type of socks whether it's raining or not--but if I'm doing a really long run in the rain (like my 20 miler!) then I will have to stop and change socks mid-way. That said, are you wearing running socks (that wick moisture)? If you're wearing cotton, then I would definitely get some running socks (you can find them at the running store). They will make your feet feel SO much better when you've been sweating or running in the rain.

    2. Thanks. I don't wear running socks (just plain old every day socks). I'll have to look into getting a pair of running socks. Have a great day.

  13. I have a question for you (and anyone else who's doing WW) - I just started WW a few weeks ago and cannot eat all of my points every day. NEVER. I get 29 points, down from 31 yay! - but am hitting between 17 and 24 daily. No matter what I eat, I can't get them all in. Yesterda, I never at lunch because I was so busy and by the time I finally ate dinner it was broccoli and 1/2 a baked potato. I'd had 12 whopping points all day, so that was the worst I'd done. I don't want to stuff myself with points when I'm not hungry. I've even gone so far as to eat spoonfuls of Nutella just to get points in, which I know is bad. What am I doing wrong? Although, I last 4.5 pounds last week, so maybe nothing. LOL

    1. I wish I had that problem! But I can't even empathize with that.

If I DID have a hard time getting points in--I would add peanut butter to everything, and have two glasses of wine at night instead of one ;)

  14. I'm in metro Detroit - I hope my Kroger has the Justin's nut butters!

Also - I read a past post of yours where you talked about listening to pod-casts while running. I listened to a Jillian Micheal's one tonight and loved it! My run didn't feel like it dragged on forever, and I did my first continuous 5k! You're truly an inspiration, and showed me that "normal" people can become anything they want - even a runner. :)

  15. It's not safe to put frozen meat in the crock pot, it spends too much time in the danger zone 40-140 degrees so bacteria can multiply and make you sick. But the recipe would be good with thawed chicken!

  16. Hi Katie,
It was my husband's birthday today so I went to our Kroger's and picked up a small packet of that Justin's spread and got ingredients for the recipe. When hubby got home, he said it smelled SO GOOD!! He asked if it had crack in it because he couldn't stop eating it. Ha ha. I did put chicken in frozen and added some diced onion. I definitely shared this recipe to friends and family

  17. I'm glad you're having success with Weight Watchers! I've been doing it for almost a year now (Thursday!) and have lost 70 pounds!!! The blogging helps too :P I love that they give you fruit for free, and the weekly points for treats, it give you permission to have them, but a limit too. Keep up the great work! You are one of my biggest inspirations and I look forward to every post!

  18. I was in Minneapolis this past weekend and went to MOA. There's a store there that sells salsas and hot sauce and whatnot (sorry... forgot the name!) But they had sweet potato and walnut butter. It was super tasty!

Also, I am so glad to hear PB2 is going to be in stores! I hope I can find it!

I used to publish ALL comments (even the mean ones) but I recently chose not to publish those. I always welcome constructive comments/criticism, but there is no need for unnecessary rudeness/hate. But please--I love reading what you have to say! (This comment form is super finicky, so I apologize if you're unable to comment)
