GOOD NEWS!!

I'M GETTING A TUMMY TUCK!!!

I spoke with the plastic surgeon's secretary today, and she said that my insurance said it's medical, not cosmetic (per the doctor's notes) and that it will be covered.  If I should choose to do the lower body lift, I'll have to pay extra for it--and I have to admit, I'm kind of leaning toward doing that, assuming I can finance it--but at the very least, I'll be getting a tummy tuck!!

Tentative date is Nov. 11th. 11-11-11... hopefully that's good luck! ;)  The secretary has to speak with the doctor tomorrow and make sure the OR is available for about 4 hours on that date, and if so, then that's when I'll be getting the surgery.  That happens to fall on the same Friday as the Friday I fell and broke my jaw last year (Nov 12). And I'll be staying in the same hospital.

I'm SO EXCITED and so nervous at the same time. I can't believe it's actually happening. But like I promised, you're the first to know :)

  1. I'm so excited and nervous for you, too. The pain and recovery is my concern for you, especially since you're so used to being active. My sister's sister-in-law had the tummy tuck and lipo and I think she gained weight back in other places, and she PAID out-of-pocket for it!!! That would have been even MORE incentive for me to do the right thing! I have a lot of sagging skin that's most obvious at certain angles (eek!) and I asked my husband what's worse, the fat or the loose skin, and he kinda didn't answer. Definitely the fat, since I can hide it under very cute clothes now!

That's weird that it falls on the same day. About six weeks away, no?

  2. P.S. The surgeon will let you know how many pounds of excess skin he/she removed! That will probably bring you to your goal!

  6. Congrats! I was thinking the same thing about the skin weighing a lot. I also bet it will bring you much closer to your goal once the swelling goes down!

  9. That is great news. Make sure you get plenty of rest afterwards. You're so used to being active now that it will be very hard for you to take a break but you MUST! Trust me,as a nurse I've seen plenty of post-op infections from wounds that weren't given time to heal properly.

  10. I'm so happy for you! If you can swing it, I would totally go for the full body lift. Get it all done at once, I say!

  11. Congrats!!! That is great news!!

the best choice really depends on you. Are you unhappy with your lower body that you'd wish you'd changed it later if you don't do it? If it doesn't really bother you, then I'd say go with the tummy. If it does, but you are looking at just financial.. you can find a way to make it happen. Chances are you aren't going to want to go back and do this again, you know? :)

So excited and nervous for you! Hope to be able to see if our insurance will cover mine in the next few months. :)

  19. HOORAY! NOW--you will really be SLIM Katie! That is wonderful news--you have earned it. I'm going to an orthopaedeic surgeon early next month. I'm not ready for surgery yet, but I want some kind of shot in each knee to help ease the pain. It hurts, not only when I walk or run, but when I get up from a chair or walk up or down stairs. I think after losing this weight, I have EARNED the right to have knees that don't hurt all the time. I know when I was SUPER FAT, that my weight was causing the pain. But now at 142-3 pounds, I no longer think that should be the case.
We are changing our lives--for the better! GO US! I am so thrilled for you Katie--it's happening!!!

  26. Amazing Katie! So excited for you:-) I say go for the lower body lift- if you're going through all of that, then get it all done girl. You want to be THRILLED with the way it looks afterwards, not wishing you had done more when you had the chance. ONE recovery and it's done!!

I had a friend who had a tummy tuck and was absolutely amazed at the results. Now-- one thing-- you ARE going to show us post-op photos right? I'd love to see the before-and-after comparison, but I have a feeling that might be something you don't want to share. I hope you will!

  28. Good Luck! If you are really fit going in, it really doesn't take that long to bounce back.

Also... for the first couple of weeks after you really can't eat all that much anyway because you get full faster.. having been all "cinched in".

I was back on my exercise bike (gently!) really quickly after surgery. My Dr. knew I wasn't going to quit exercising, so he made sure I knew what I could and could not do.

Take some pictures of yourself "Before"... sometimes I forget now what I used to look like... it's good to have a reminder sometimes!

  29. I am so excited for you! This is such awesome news! You have worked so hard and you deserve this! I'm sure it will be really hard for you to be still for a couple weeks because you are so active but remember that it will be worth it! Thanks for sharing your wonderful news!
