Sweaty Bands Review & Giveaway

I have seen these cute headbands called Sweaty Bands at race expos, and I always looking longingly at them, but I've never bought one. My head is big, and I've never found a headband that would stay put more than a few seconds. So while the headbands were adorable, I just knew they'd never work on my head.

The company recently contacted me to see if I'd like to give them a try. I wrote them back, saying that I would be happy to try them, but I've never been able to keep a headband on my head; and since I'm always honest with my readers, I wasn't going to say I loved them if I didn't.

They wrote back and said that they looked forward to the challenge ;)  That gave me hope that maybe these headbands were different, and they would stay on... the company was very confident that I would like them.

They have SO MANY styles and colors to choose from, but I didn't choose what they sent. The ones they chose for me, however, were really cute! There were two different widths.

This is the "narrow" width
This is the "wide" width
The bands have a backing that feels kind of fuzzy, like velvet, which is what makes them stay in place (and absorb sweat). After putting it on, I moved my head from side to side and up and down, and it was still good. But that doesn't attest to much, so I decided to see how long I could keep it in place while cleaning my house--the ultimate challenge.

I cleaned all day long (this was just before Rik came to town) and I kept reaching up to feel it and see if it was slipping, but I was very impressed at how well it stayed in place. It eventually did slip back too far, and I had to readjust--but to be fair, I have a huge head and it stayed on much longer than any other headband I've tried.

Here is the underside, so you can see the fabric

The part that goes behind your head is a thin elastic band
They are a little pricey, in my opinion--$15 for a narrow, $18 for a wide band... but they seem to be very good quality. It doesn't feel like it's cheaply made at all. It would be a cute gift for a runner (or anyone who exercises). They have SO many to choose from--I don't know how I would be able to pick just one. They also allow you to make custom designs, which of course made me think I have to do a Runs for Cookies one. ;)

Sweaty Bands generously sent me a third band to give away to a Runs for Cookies reader! Here is what it looks like:

That one is a wide band. So if you think you'd like to give it a try, you can enter a random drawing by leaving a comment on this post--do you have problems getting headbands to stay on your head, or are you one of the lucky people who can wear all kind of cute headbands?

I will draw a winner on Saturday, 10/27 at 8:00 a.m. EST. and announce the winner on Saturday's blog post. Winner will have 48 hours to e-mail me, or a new winner will be chosen. (This is open to anyone in the WORLD, because I'll be doing the shipping).

(In full disclosure, I was given two Sweaty Bands for free to review and one to give away, but all opinions are my own, as usual).

  1. I have a hard time with headbands staying on during running. I found a wide one from under armour that works!

  2. I can NEVER get a headband to stay on my big head! Maybe these would work!

  3. I'd love to enter to win it. :) I have tried all kinds of headbands, and none of them stay on my head. :( I have a weird shaped head, I think. The way I normally keep my hair out of my face when I run is to wear one of those cheap plastic headbands with my hair back in a ponytail.

  4. I usually have problems keeping headbands in place during any activity. I just figured my head was shaped funny. Maybe these would work.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I have problems with headbands, but not keeping them in place. A lot of times they are too tight, and I get a headache. I'd love to try one of these though. They seem softer.

  6. I'm glad I am not the only one with this problem, I have yet to find a band that actually stays!

    ReplyDelete
  7. I have the same problem - they never stay on!!! The bands are really cute though! Definitely worth giving a try!

    ReplyDelete
  8. I've made my own headbands by weaving together old t-shirts - I can make them to fit my head and they soak up sweat like crazy! But they're not nearly as cute as these...

    ReplyDelete
  9. I love to wear headbands for exercise but I think my head/ face looks too round to we're them with normal clothes! I am purely a functional headband wearer! These are super cute.

  10. I've always had to use much wider bands for them to stay in place. The narrow or really thin ones don't even stay on longer than 10 minutes for me and that's not even while exercising! I HAVE to wear a headband because I have bangs and hate for them to be plastered to my forehead with sweat, so I always have them tucked under a band.

    ReplyDelete
  11. For me it depends on the headband! I've had good luck with some brands, but others not so much. These look cute!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Ha! It's funny because my sisters always make fun of me about my "dome." I, too, see a lot of great comments about these and I've been dying to try them because honestly, my head defies any and all headbands! --Mave.

  13. I would love to try the Sweaty Band! I too always look longingly at all the cute designs, but I just can't afford them :(

  16. I have one similar to that and it stays pretty well, for the most part they slip right off though.

  17. I have a teeny tiny head and most headbands don't fit me. I'd like to try.

  18. I love headbands but have a difficult time with them because I have very thin hair. I would definitely like to try these :)

  19. I have a big head too and headbands never stay put! I would love to test these out while running :)

  20. Would love to win one to give it a try. I have bought many and some dont work at all and I've only had one that didnt slip and caught the sweat, but I'd love a chance to compare to this one if I win! Thanks.

  23. I have NEVER been able to find a headband that'll stay put. It's so frustrating. Is there anyone out there who can wear headbands without them slipping? I'd love to try the Sweaty Band.

  27. I've been on the hunt for a good headband. It is hard to pull the trigger and buy any though because I don't know if they'll stay on my head. I'd love to win to try it out, but may just buy one if I don't. Thanks for posting about your experience.

  28. I like the bondi band when working out.... but any other headband drives me crazy!! I *feel* like they are slipping even though they aren't. LOL

I would love to try one. Headbands always slide off on me. Even when I put bobby pins in the bottom part to hold them, they still slide off and I end up going back to running with my Nike Dri Fit Visor. Headbands are so cute though, I want to find one that works.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I would love to try one. I must have a weird shaped head because every headband I've ever tried pops right off my head. :-) Maybe this one will work for me while I'm running my first 5K.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'd love to try one!! Headbands always slide back on my head too so hopefully this will stay in place better.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Never had much luck with headbands. Would love to give these a try though!

    ReplyDelete
  33. No, they never stay on for me either. I've had them actually go shooting off the back. Gave up a long time ago but would love to try one of these! - Katie from NM

  34. I would like to try one. I have some that either slip off, or they are tight and they give me a headache.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ohh I am like you!! Always readjusting my headband (it slips off my big round head) throughout the day or the run... I would love to try one of these, I've tried everything!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I will be another challenge for sweaty bands! I have a terrible time getting headbands to stay in place. Plus, I have a mass of curly hair that they have to try to hold down too, so it's always challenge to find the right width to keep everything in place. This one is very cute and I'd love to try it out!

I'm one of the lucky people who can wear most headbands. I think that my head is the only part of my body that's normally shaped! But that's a very cute pattern and I'd love to win! :)

  38. I saw a girl at the gym JUST this morning who had a cute headband on and I thought, "why can't I get those to stay on my head?!"
I would love to try this one!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't know whether it's the shape of my head but I have yet to find a head band that stays! I just threw some out that were uncomfortable or didn't stay. I'd love to try one of the Sweaty Bands :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I would love to try it out! I have very thick, but very fine/slick hair, so I can never keep one in place. I usually work out indoors at the gym and my hair is always a hot mess. I would love to give Sweaty Bands a try and if it works for me I would be happy to pass the info along to others. This one is super cute!

    ReplyDelete

  45. I have a really hard time with head bands staying in place. I don't really have an occipital bone ( the round lump in the back of your head above your nape in case you didn't know) so they ALWAYS slide off! I'm jealous of runners who get to run with head bands, sweat bands, or those ear warmer things.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I have trouble with some headbands, but not others. It's very odd! I'd love to win this one and give it a try!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I can't keep headbands on because my hair is too slippery -- I have the same problem with winter hats. I'm intrigued by Sweaty Bands and would love to try one.

  53. I also feel like I have an abnormally large head....and can NEVER get one to stay in place while exercising. I have long, curly hair, and always have those annoying baby hairs that fly in my face and eyes! Drives me crazy. I have gotten to the point that I always wear this same, old ratty red hat, just because it keeps everything off my face. Would love to try these!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I saw these at the Detroit expo too and probably spent 20 minutes picking out styles and then decided I couldn't afford it. But they look awesome and I really would love to try them too! I have so many problems with headbands staying on too. Hopefully this will work for me too!

I have a HUGE head and have never had a headband stay in place. It's a bummer when running! I am stuck with bobby pins. I have never tried these, but I would love to! Like you, I long to wear all of the cute bands I see at expos and on other peoples' heads :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. I have never, EVER had a headband stay on my head. I will have to check these out.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I cannot find a headband to stay in place either! Would love to try this one!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I have a small head and very straight silky hair so headbands always slide off. I am trying to grow out my bangs so I have been looking for a good headband for zumba class! Please add me to the draw. Thanks! :o)

    ReplyDelete
  61. I would love to try this! I don't have a large/small head, but it is oddly shaped. :/ So I normally have a difficult time keeping them put.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I have a big ole noggin, but can surprisingly wear the wider headbands (too narrow and they slide right up). Hats are another story...

    ReplyDelete
  63. I have never been able to find a headband that stays on my head either

    ReplyDelete
  64. I've never been able to wear them either, they always slip off so I wear a hat when I run :)

  65. My head is huge. Big brain right? Head bands are always squeezing too tight.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I have a big old head (think "Heed" if you've ever seen "So I Married an Axe Murderer".) I also sweat like an animal when I exercise. So I'd love to give them a try! =-)

And here I thought I was the only person who couldn't keep a headband on. Who knew?

    ReplyDelete
  73. I've never been able to get headbands to stay on either. :( I don't know if it's the size of my head (I wear like a medium when I buy hats, so I don't think my head is too big or anything) or maybe my head is oddly shaped, but headbands always slip backward then pop off. :/ So I'd love to win and try it out. I'd be extremely impressed if it worked out!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I would love to try one. I love my noodle huggers http://www.etsy.com/shop/LittleSliceOfAwesome - my fav is the wider width but I'd love to try this one! Thanks!

  84. You may like Lishy Bands. They are very similarly made (created by a runner), don't slip, can be custom sized, and are quite a bit cheaper. I own about 15 of them currently and absolutely love them. (www.etsy.com/shop/lishysmithy)

  85. I love reading all the comments and am glad to hear that I am not the only person who struggles to find a good headband. Thank you for being the "try before you buy" guinea pig.

I have trouble keeping a headband on my head...and I have many fly-a-ways to deal with. I would love to be the lucky winner :)

I enjoy reading your blog. I read every day that I can and silently cheer you on toward your goals (many are the same as mine so I can relate).

    ReplyDelete
  90. Headbands always slide back on my head, too! In addition, they tend to give me a headache if I wear one too long. I wear one to keep my hair out of my face when I run my dogs in agility and remove it between runs. Not the most fashionable look with a big crease line in my hair!

    ReplyDelete
  91. No head bands fit me ever. I would so love to try these.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I tried to keep a headband on today and it wouldn't stay on for 2 seconds!

    ReplyDelete
  93. I have the same trouble as you Katie with headbands. I keep trying new ones though. I just tried a new one that is supposed to stay put, but sadly like the rest...it failed too. I've seen these Sweaty Bands before online, but didn't want to spend that much on a headband that may not stay. Would love to test drive one! I would buy more if they actually worked too! ;)

  98. I usually have no luck with headbands. I do have a couple that stay in my hair, but most slip and I have to constantly readjust. I am a big sweaty mess when I exercise, so I would love to know the sweat holding power of these things!

    ReplyDelete
  106. I love headbands. My head is smallish I guess and have trouble finding headbands that don't slide back and off immediately. I wear them when I go running!

  110. I have a big head too....my mom would always tell me that it was because I had a big brain- that worked when I was little, but now I am not so sure ;) I have found some headbands here and there that work for a while when I run or work out, but I have to adjust most mid-session. Thanks for letting us know about these!

    ReplyDelete
  111. I also have a hard time keeping headbands in place! I've tried many different kinds. I've even experimented with using bobby pins to keep them in place. Not only did the headband fall out but the bobby pins did too. I would love to try the sweaty band! I just recently started running (and training for my first 5k) so I appreciate the review!

  115. I like the colors and look of these headbands

    ReplyDelete
  116. I'm with you: headbands NEVER stay on my head! I always think they're really cute, but unless I bobby pin them in place, they slip right off!

    ReplyDelete
  117. I have a big head, too. I put a headband on and feel it slowly crawl up and pop off my big noggin. I do need a good headband for my workouts since I chopped all my hair off and can't do ponytails, though =)

  118. I'm always looking for a cute way to keep hair out of my face while running - would love to win a sweaty band!

    ReplyDelete
  119. I have heard of Sweaty Bands, but have never actually seen one. I don't think I have an overly large head, but I have never had a headband stay on! It is frustrating!

  120. I too have a head that makes headbands slip off all the time. I have heard of these bands but never felt like shelling out the money because I was afraid it too would slip off.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I've heard of these, too, and actually thought I bought one, but it was a bondiband instead. It slips off unless I have it covering my ears making it useless in warm weather or indoors. I'd love to try one of these. And, I love your blog and your honesty about everything. You are a huge inspiration and encouragement to me!! Thanks!!

  122. That makes total sense now why my headbands do not stay on. Please do not enter me in the contest I'm an avid reader but I do not comment often enough for it to be "fair". I'm anxious to buy my own!

    ReplyDelete
  123. I may as well enter! I have a fat head still and it'd be nice to get something to stick without using a pound of bobby pins! :)

    ReplyDelete
  124. I'd love to try one! I'm always buying headbands, but have yet to find one that stays put while going about daily life, let alone exercising! Bring it on!!!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Yes! I too have the problem where every headband I put on, immediately flies off the back of my head. I don't get it! I've also been coveting the cute headbands I've seen other runners effortlessly wearing. So obviously I'd love to win one of my own! Thanks, Katie.

I have a problem with any kind of headband. I don't know if I have a wierd shaped head but they always fall off right when I put them on. Also the same with the regular headbands, they always hurt the back of my ears. I never wear my hair down because it always gets in my face but to find a headband that would really work would be a dream for me lol.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Woohoo, a competition I can enter!

I usually only wear non-sports headbands, but only when my hair is up cos it's curly & it looks terrible with a headband when it's down. I wear a hat when I'm running, but a headband sounds like a great idea for the summer months to stop my head getting so hot!

    ReplyDelete
  129. I am normally pretty cheap so I get the very thin, plain bands which sometimes stay with the help of a bobby pin on either side my head. The ones with the thin no slip rubber grip strip always seem too tight & give a headache.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Well sometimes if you have a small head it's just the same kind of problem. It's either too tight or too lose. But they sound really cool! I would love to try one :)

    ReplyDelete
  131. Headbands never stay on for me either.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I still use those toothy plastic bands which dates me horribly. Consider choosing me so that I might be updated into the 21st century!

    ReplyDelete
  133. I have been wanting to try one of these, but I have thought they are a little pricey. I would love to win one. :)

    ReplyDelete
  134. I don't run in a headband because they fall off for whatever reason. I don't know if my head is too big or weirdly shaped...

    ReplyDelete
  135. I have a big head, so I always have problems with headbands.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  140. I have the worst luck with headbands! They always slip back and if I don't think about it, I end up losing them.

  142. I've found one headband that I like that I run with- I think I might have even seen it mentioned on this blog before (is that possible?), I got it at a race expo! Most headbands and even hairclips give me a headache lately though so I have to be super picky! This one looks like a great one to try.

  143. I can never, ever get headbands to stay on my head. I, too, have a rather large head and headbands seem to love to ride up my head and fly right off. I tried keeping them in place with bobby pins, but that didn't work either. I eventually gave up and started to occasionally gel back my hair sometimes for work or working out, but it gets gross when I sweat. Maybe this brand will work better? :)

  144. I've seen other runners wearing these and have found them in my LRS, but was hesitant to try them because of the price. I'd love to win this and give it a try!

  145. I would love to try these! I can never get headbands to stay on more than a few minutes while working out.

  146. I like Sweaty Band, but I have never tried a wide one. I would really like to!~

  147. They look so cute! I need to try headbands when working out. My head sweats so much!

  148. I have a horrible time keeping a headband on my big head! I'd love to find one that works well!

  149. Hi Katie, I have been a lurker on your site for a while now. You are a real inspiration! I have a big ol' melon head and really thick wavy hair, and usually headbands give me a headache, but I would love to find one that would work and these look really cute. Please include me in the chance to win!
    Thanks much!

  150. I have never found a headband that would stay on my head, would love to try these!

  151. I never wear headbands because they never stay on my head. I have thin straight hair so I am curious to see if these would stay.

  152. I've never tried a headband during a workout before, so I'd love to give this one a try!

  153. I have a big ol' head! Nothing fits!! :( I'd love to try tho!

  154. These look so comfortable! I would love to give it a try!

  155. my hair is so super straight that normally the head band wont hold on, I'd love to give it a try

  156. I've been looking for a good headband. I have really short, frizzy hairs that stick up in all directions at the front of my head, so when I start running, I look like I've stuck my hand in a light socket! I'd love to try these out. Maybe I'll actually find one that fits my oddly shaped head. :)

  157. Very interesting! I LOVE headbands, but have a hard time wearing these types. I'm good with the traditional kind that just go over the top. However the back of my head is really flat and narrow so trying to keep on a fully circle headband is tough. I'd love to give these a try!!! :-)

  158. I would like to try thus headband too! I always have an issue with them squeezing my head &I always end up with a headache.

  159. I thought it was just me that had trouble with slipping headbands. I would love to try one.

  160. I think headbands sometimes do slip on me (giant AND misshaped head over here) but the main problem is that headbands (especially the harder ones) hit a nerve or something and give me an almost instant headache. I've been wanting to try these as well but the price was a deterrent. So, I hope I win :)

  162. I feel for you Katie! I too was blessed (cursed?) with a larger than seems normal head. I can't keep any headbands on so just keep wiping the sweat off with my forearm. Would love to see if this one would work for me!

  163. I have problems keeping them on for a long time. I have found one which works well for me, but it is getting a little worn. I would definitely buy one that says runs for cookies! I live in Spain, but I am roiginally from Mnnesota. AmyE

  164. I would love to try these! I have a large head- can't even find a hat in stores that fits my head LOL. It would be awesome if i could find a head band that not only fits but would stay on my head. :)

  166. I would love to win one! I wear one when running, but like you they always slip off!
Thank you for making it world wide! I live in Australia and its not often there are international giveaways. I read you everyday and you inspire to try and run further and more often. Thanks!

  167. I love those!! Most just fly off my head because my head is too small!!

    ReplyDelete
  168. I use a headband when I wash my face - I have never found one I liked that looked nice and was functional. I'd give these a go - and maybe it would encourage me to put my running shoes back on!

  169. Hi Katie

I would love to win the sweaty band.I read about them before but they don't seem to sell them here in Germany.

  170. Like you I have a large head along with very thick hair. Headbands never seem to stay on my head - it's a battle with me being on the losing side :( I would love to give this headband a workout! Thank you for this posting!! Julie

  174. I would love to try these. Just last night I told a friend in spin class that I'm about to shave my head to keep my hair out of my face! :)

  175. I can never get headbands to stay on my head either! I have a TON of curly so they usually just slip off!

I have the opposite problem, my heads too small. I usually have to tie my headbands to make them smaller to stay put :)

  177. Ooh...I am totally one of those girls with an abnormally large head where it's difficult to keep headbands on for long periods of time. They do that thing where they slide back and back over time until they just pop off without knowing!!! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  178. I would live to try these. I have yet to find a head band that doesn't slip off. Most of the time within minutes it is off.

    ReplyDelete
  179. I would love to try this. I have the worst luck with headbands.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Too cute! I have a hard time keeping headbands on, too. My head isn't that big, so maybe just oddly shaped? I'm impressed if a headband lasts about 5-10 mins!

    ReplyDelete
  181. I can never keep a headband on either - they slowly start slipping back and then I look ridiculous! Hope these work for me

  182. I love sweaty bands...I have always wanted one but never splurged. I don't have a big head, but they do slip off in the back. Maybe this will do the trick!

You are not alone ! I'm a card carrying member of the "big head" club, would love to try these new bands : )

  186. I have always wanted to try one but have been too cheap to actually buy it. Didn't want to waste my money on something that might fall off like every other headband.

    ReplyDelete
  187. I have the opposite problem... my head is too little and I can never find headbands that fit, let alone stay in place!!!

    ReplyDelete
  188. I have the same problem...big head...no headband. I cant even wear a bandana around my head because it just slips right off. I'd love to try these.

    ReplyDelete
  189. I also have a giant head- I make myself feel better by saying that of course I do, because it has to hold my giant brain! I have to wear a hat when I run, which gets really hot, since I live in Austin, TX. Yesterday (oct 25) I ran and it was 91 degrees at 5:20 pm.

I might have to try one of these guys!

    ReplyDelete
  190. Headbands rarely stay on my head too. I would love to try the wider one.

    ReplyDelete
  191. It's not that I have a BIG head, persay, just a very odd shaped head, making it impossible for any headband not to slip off. I would love to try one of these!

    ReplyDelete
  192. I would love to have one of these...they are super cute! And sounds like it would stay on my big noggin!

    ReplyDelete
  193. I have always had the same problem with headbands. They never stay on my hand and I've tried a lot. I would love to try the Sweaty Band!! (jody3381)

  194. Katie - I too have never been able to find a headband that will stay on while exercising, mainly because i have a ton of thick hair and a big head to go with it. I'd LOVE to try this brand!

    ReplyDelete
  195. I would love to have one. I have the opposite problem of a small head and they always slide off even the ones with the goop on them. If it worked for you than I am sure it would work for me too :)

    ReplyDelete
  196. I have always had very thick, naturally curly hair, so this would be a challenge for me! But I am up for it!
