Would You Rather...? (A few hard ones!)

Well, we ended up getting only SIX trick-or-treaters yesterday! I don't know how it was everywhere else, but a lot of my friends/family around here were saying that they didn't get many trick-or-treaters. That was a big bummer. And now I have 30 29 28 27 candy bars left over. Hahaha! Not at all how I expected it to go.

Jerry and I had fun, though. We watched Scream 3 and played Ticket to Ride in the garage. The weather was PERFECT for trick-or-treating! Not too cold, no rain or wind... I don't think we've ever had such good weather on Halloween.

I wasn't sure what to write today, so I thought maybe a few "Would You Rather...?" questions would be fun. I picked questions that I thought were REALLY difficult ones--questions that really required thought. (Not to say that they are profound, serious questions--even the silly ones can be really tough to choose!).  I'm so glad that we don't actually have to make decisions like this in real life...

(I got these questions from the Parade website)

Q: Would you rather be in jail for five years or be in a coma for a decade?

A: Jail would obviously be terrifying and horrible, I'm sure. And basically going to sleep then waking up 10 years later would mean I missed SO much that has happened. I think I would actually choose going to jail for five years. Of course, I've never been there, so maybe if I spent a single night in jail I'd change my mind! A friend of mine spent a night in jail earlier this year and said it was the absolute worst experience of his life and he'd do pretty much anything to never experience it again.

In jail, I could at least hear about my family and friends and what's going on in the world, and also know that I'd be done in five years. Waking from a coma after a decade would be super difficult to learn about all the experiences I missed (good or bad): weddings, deaths, babies, etc.

(This picture is from when Jerry, the kids and I did an escape room in a jail cell)

Q. Would you rather have a pause or a rewind button in your life?

A. I'm always saying that I wish I could just hit a pause button in my life so that I don't feel so overwhelmed or rushed--that I could just take some breaths and then worry about whatever I'm worrying about next week or even just the next day. Time goes by so fast! But I'm also always saying that I wish I could go back and do things differently (especially as a parent; I think that I've done a decent job as a mom, but I think all parents have things they'd do differently if able).

If I could pick pause or rewind, I think I'd pick rewind. I hate that my kids are pretty much adults now! Spending time with Luke and Riley makes me wish that Noah and Eli were that little again (only if I was still as young as I was then! Haha).

Q. Would you rather hear a comforting lie or an uncomfortable truth?

A. I feel like I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I'd probably rather hear a comforting lie. I'm a super sensitive person and I think that ignorance is bliss in a lot of situations. It obviously depends on the situation, but for the most part, I would want to be feel better with a lie.

A good example would be something like knowing the circumstances/details of a loved one's death; I would ask for the details, but I would also hope that whoever is telling me about them would know to lie and tell me that the death was painless and quick or something like that. I'm good at picking up on lies, though, so they have to be super convincing!

And we'll end with a not-so-serious one:

Q: Would you rather always have B.O. and not know it or always smell B.O. on everyone else?

A: Oh, man. How to choose?! As awful as it may be to the people around me, I think I'd rather always have B.O. (body odor, in case you don't know what it stands for) than to always smell B.O. on everyone else. That smell is so distinctive and repelling, I don't think I could manage to be around it all the time! If I didn't know I had B.O., well, hey--ignorance is bliss, right? ;)

Would You Rather...?

My mood is still in a weird funk and I really just want to bury my head in the sand for a little bit and pretend life is just at a standstill. I feel very overwhelmed for some reason; I have a lot to get done, but not much more than usual, so I'm not sure why I feel this way.

I'm starting to think that I'm experiencing a "mixed episode" of bipolar, which is something that never really made sense to me until now. A mixed episode means having multiple symptoms of mania/hypomania and depression at the same time.

I looked up the criteria for it to be classified as a mixed episode and this is a summary of symptoms from the DSM-V (source):

I feel like I'm more on the hypomanic side of things right now, but I definitely have several of the depressive episode symptoms as well. I may need to talk to my psychiatrist and increase my mood stabilizer (at my last appointment, we decreased it a bit).

Anyway, I'm not prepared to write anything worthwhile at the moment, so I thought it would be a good time for another "Would You Rather...?" post. I got the questions from this site. Here goes:

Q. Would you rather be a genius and know everything or be amazing at any activity you tried?

A. This is a great question! But I really didn't even have to think very long about it. I'd rather be a genius and know everything. One of the best parts of life is practicing hobbies and finding what you're good at. I was was amazing at everything I tried, I think life would be boring.

Q. Would you rather dine alone or watch a movie by yourself?

A. I'm assuming that this question is referring to going out--eating alone in a restaurant or watching a movie at the theater by oneself. I'm actually really comfortable with either one! I've always been that way. In college, my roommate thought it was SO WEIRD that I would occasionally go out to eat by myself. I've gone to movies alone, too. I guess if I had to choose, I'd prefer to watch a movie by myself, since there isn't much talking involved anyway.

Q. Would you rather be the richest person in the world or be immortal?

A. Honestly, I think either of these would be a curse! Being filthy rich is never something I've dreamt of. I feel like from the moment people learned of your wealth, your relationship would change. I think it would be extremely difficult to trust people--I'd always be wondering if they actually liked me or if they were just interested in money.

Being immortal would come with its own set of problems--you'd see everyone you love die eventually; goals in life would change because you wouldn't have a timeframe to of which to base them; and I feel like life would lose a lot of purpose if you had no ending.

But, in true "would your rather...?" fashion, if I had to choose, I would rather be rich.

Q. Would you rather wear pants 3 sizes too big or shoes 3 sizes too small?

A. There is no way that I would want to wear shoes that are three sizes too small! Can you imagine how much that would hurt? I like baggy clothes, so the pants wouldn't be too bad ;)

Q. Would you rather go into the past and meet your ancestors or go into the future and meet your great-great-grandchildren?

A. I think anyone that knows me knows that I would love to meet my ancestors. I would particularly like to meet my maternal grandpa and my paternal grandma. They both died when my parents were still teenagers. I don't know much about my dad's mom, but from what I've heard about my mom's dad, he would be super fun to get to know.

Q. Would you rather lose your ability to speak or the ability to hear?

A. I would rather lose my ability to hear. I get overwhelmed by noises a lot of the time. I'm not saying that I would be happy to lose my hearing; but out of all of my senses, I think that would be the one I would least mind losing.

Q. Would you rather experience the world beginning or ending?

A. I definitely think the beginning would be better. Not to get too dark during a light-hearted game of "Would You Rather...?", but it's sad to see how terrible people are to each other now in comparison with just a few years ago; if it continues to get worse, I don't want to experience that. Seeing the world beginning would be pretty cool!

Q. Would you rather have more money or more time?

A. I'm assuming this means on a daily basis as opposed to the question about immortality. I would definitely choose to have more time. I don't like feeling overwhelmed (as I do now) and I wish that I could do everything at a leisurely pace. Feeling rushed is stressful! (Of course, money can be stressful, too. If we were struggling financially, then I'd choose to have more money so we could live comfortably.

Q. Would you rather only be able to whisper or only be able to shout?

A. Haha! I can't imagine shouting everything. I like quiet. I would choose to only be able to whisper. It wouldn't be ideal, because then I'd be even quieter than I already am, but it would be better than shouting!

And to end with a silly one...

Q. Would you rather be without elbows or without knees?

A. Imagining either of this is hilarious. I think it would be much more of a struggle to be without elbows--you wouldn't be able to touch your upper body at all (let alone eat). Walking without knees would look silly, but it can definitely be done (that's pretty much how I walk when I'm super stiff in the mornings, hahaha).

Okay, I'm going to write out a "to do" list right now for tomorrow. Writing it out and then (hopefully) checking it off throughout the day will help me to feel less overwhelmed. Also, I love writing lists!

Would You Rather... (food edition)

I have about 45 minutes to write a post before I have to jump in the shower. I haven't dyed my hair in about three months and the grays make me cringe every time I look in the mirror--so I finally decided to just quit procrastinating and do it. (I'm sitting here with dye in my hair and figured I'd write a blog post while I wait.)

I had the idea to do a "would you rather...?" post (responding to difficult questions of "would you rather _____ or _____?") and when I looked for ideas online, I saw SO many in different categories. So I'll do a "food edition" here and then maybe another time when I need something to write about, I'll choose a different category. (These questions were found at this website.)

Okay, here goes...

Would you rather eat a raw onion or two raw heads of garlic?

*This one is hard! I love onions and garlic, but eating them this way would be kind of torturous. I think I'd rather eat a raw onion. I think I could be done with it faster than the garlic.

Would you rather have to eat one jar of jam every day for the rest of your life, or never be able to eat bread again?

*I guess I'd choose to never be able to eat bread again. I don't eat a lot of bread anyways (if it was pasta, well, this would be a much harder question!) and I just can't imagine eating an entire jar of jam every day. I only eat jam a couple of times a year.

Would you rather have the only beverage you can drink be water or the only food you can eat be salad?

*Hahaha! Everyone knows that my two least favorite foods are salad and yogurt. And I drink pretty much nothing but water now, so this one is easy. I'd choose to drink only water.

This was actually tonic water, not regular water. And it possibly maybe had vodka in it. But for the sake of this photo of me choosing water, we'll pretend it's simply water! ;)

Would you rather have cheddar popcorn or popcorn with movie theatre butter?

*Again, this one is easy. Movie theater butter all the way! I don't even like "real" butter on popcorn--I like the fake butter-flavored oil stuff.

Would you rather have cake or cookies for dessert?

*Now THIS is a torturous question! The name of my blog would imply that I'd choose cookies. But over the years, I've grown to love cake even more than cookies. I'd say that cake is my favorite dessert! (Only if it has a good frosting to cake ratio--it's got to be like 50/50.

Would you rather live in a world with no caffeine or a world with no meat?

*I wouldn't mind either of these options, actually! I am WAY too sensitive to caffeine, so I don't drink much anyway (just a cup of black tea, and even that makes me jittery). If I didn't have a family, I would probably be vegetarian anyway (I don't really love meat, but my family does, so I just simplify dinner). I guess if I was going to choose one option, I'd get rid of the caffeine.

Would you rather eat pizza or ice cream as your own meal for the rest of your life?

*And THIS question--it's like someone was reading my thoughts. Pizza and ice cream are my two most favorite foods in the world. If I had to pick a savory food, I'd choose pizza. Sweet food, and I'd choose ice cream. I think if I had to choose one or the other to have for the rest of my life, I'd choose the pizza. (Surprised?)

I couldn't find a picture of me eating pizza, but I did find this picture of me eating freeze-dried Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream--my brother got a freeze dryer and asked what we wanted him to make--this was my choice! ;)

Would you rather be vegetarian or carnivorous?

*I guess I already answered this one... I'd be vegetarian!

If it meant you could save pizza from extinction, would you eat a cricket?

*I would totally eat a cricket. I would probably eat a cricket on a dare, if the stakes were good enough! Haha.

If you were responsible for choosing whether the world would have bagels or donuts, which one would you choose?

*This one is hard only because it depends on the quality of the bagels or the doughnuts. Assuming they were both top-quality, I think I'd choose to have bagels. You could have sweet or savory bagels and there are tons of different combinations of toppings for them. I think everyone would get tired of doughnuts after awhile. (Well, except Jerry. He'd choose doughnuts, 100%.)

That was fun! Feel free to argue with my choices in the comments ;)
