Wednesday Weigh-In is Back

Jerry is working the day shift now, and he had today off work, so after the boys went to school, it was just the two of us. I had a 6-mile run on the schedule, so I got it done as soon as the kids left for school. I did the exact same route as Monday's run, and I had the same goal--to have even splits (maintain a consistent pace).

Monday's run was so great, and left me feel like I wanted more, so I was hoping to mimic that. And thankfully, I felt fantastic today as well! I didn't even glance at my Garmin, I just listened to my podcast and tried to zone out.

When I got back to the house, I stopped to stretch, and felt amazing. I think it's a combination of tapering (running fewer miles) and the fall weather. It's perfect! I just really hope that I have a run like this during the marathon. I looked at my splits, and they weren't nearly as consistent as Monday, but they weren't horribly far off, either:

After I showered, Jerry and I went to a new thrift store that opened recently. I bought a few things, and maybe I'll take pictures after I've washed them, but nothing that was a super great find. We had to stop at Kroger for eggs on the way home, and that led to browsing around. I pointed out to Jerry that they now have my former-favorite ice cream in a single serving size cup. I say "former" favorite because it was what I ate when I was obese... Chocolate Peanut Butter Haagen Dazs.

See how tiny? It's not even a half-cup--it's 3.6 fluid ounces. When I was obese, I used to eat a whole pint of this ice cream at least a few nights a week. I checked out the nutrition stats to see how many PointsPlus the little container would be:

Yes, that reads 310 calories and 21 grams of fat (9 of which are saturated) in that TINY LITTLE not-even-a-half-cup of ice cream!!

This calculated out to 8 PP. Not worth it. A cup that small is just a tease for me. ;)

I did find something that someone mentioned on my blog recently (Mary, I think...?). These breads:

Caramel Apple and Pumpkin Spice Swirl breads by Pepperidge Farm. These are seasonal, and I just had to try them. I usually keep bread like this in my freezer, and take out one slice at a time to toast for a snack or breakfast.

The Caramel Apple flavor is 3 PP, and the Pumpkin Spice is 2 PP--per slice. That seemed like a lot at first, but they are pretty thick slices, and probably the same amount of bread as a Bagel Thin, which I was spending 3 PP on. When I got home, I had a slice of the Caramel Apple one, and it was really good! I'm going to try the Pumpkin Spice one tomorrow for breakfast.

I love seasonal finds like this, but I hate that it's seasonal when I discover I love it! ;)

I figured out how to switch my weight tracking day on Weight Watchers to Wednesday, that is what I plan to do from now on. I've always had Wednesday as a weigh-in day (only because that was the day of the week I started losing weight).

I don't know when or why I stopped doing formal weigh ins, but I think it was when I broke my jaw. I only did it sporadically after that, but I'd like to start doing it every week again. I always record my weight, my body fat percentage, and my waist measurement. I just weighed in on Sunday, so I wasn't expecting much, but here goes:

  2. That is the tiniest ice cream tub in the world!!

Those breads look great--living in Canada we do not have the fun choices in everything that you guys do but you are certainly inspiring a trip across the border. ;)

Good for you for getting back to your formal weigh-ins. It is good to feel the accountability!!

    1. Where in Canada do you live? I am just across the border to (in the US). :)

    2. I am near the border too, but we refer to it as going "over the river", since we have to cross the Niagara River to get there. I am about 15 mins. from Niagara Falls.

  3. Other than the mint m&m's that my husband and I gorge...I mean snack on during Christmas time, right now everything pumpkin! I am about to write a blog post about my favorite pumpkin cookie recipe with cream cheese frosting, have already done one about pumpkin oatmeal (which I know you are familiar with), and we just went apple-picking and made this delicious apple coffeecake with using just a little bisquick mix as the base. May not be the healthiest options (except for the oatmeal), but shew whee are they good :)

  4. That bread looks yummy!!!! I found the pumpkin bagel thins. Your right the texture is a little off.

My seasonal find is Hot Apple Cider coffee!!!

  5. What do you use to measure your body fat? I like your three measurements. That's more/better data than just weight.

    1. I use an Omron BF monitor. There is a link to it on my Favorite Things page (http://www.runsforcookies.com/p/favorite-things.html). I really like to use that now that I'm close to my goal weight, because even if my weight doesn't change, I can see that exercise is helping :)

  6. I wanted to know that too. What do you use to measure body fat.
That ice cream flavour sounds yum.
Maybe next time when I go on a vacation I will try this..:)

My favorite fall seasonal food (besides freshly picked apples!) is Edy's pumpkin ice cream. Way fewer PP than the Hagen-Dazs (I think 3 or 4) :)

    1. I LOVE Edy's Pumpkin ice cream!! I have to be careful with it, though. Last time I bought it, I ate the whole container in one day!

  9. I spied those tiny containers of ice cream at walmart today, only they were Ben and Jerry's and when I held that little guy in my enormous hand and read the nutrition on it, I was shocked and reached the same conclusion you did- too many calories and just a tease!

  10. I JUST bought the PF bread yesterday! It was on sale and with a coupon it was only $2 for the loaf. It will make the BEST stuffed french toast for Big Sunday Breakfast! Have you tried Thomas' pumpkin English muffins yet? They're good.

  11. I'm loving the pumpkin English muffins right now. They are a lot softer than regular English muffins...a bit chewy, even. I haven't tried the bagel thins in the pumpkin flavor, but I have tried blueberry, and I wasn't a big fan of them.

  12. Weight Watchers did a study a few years back and found that most of the Lifetime members that kept the weight off weighed themselves daily. I thought that was an interesting find, and it makes sense. Anyway, I love the blog! Happy Fall Katie!

  13. Pumpkin ale has become my new obsession. I LOVE it!

  14. PF also makes pumpkin spice bagels, and apparently country crock makes pumpkin spice butter (but I haven't seen it yet.) The bagels are fantastic, but HUGE.

  15. Cinnamon ice cream is usually offered this time of year. It is great on hot apple crisp or pie. But I don't buy it anymore.

  16. Holy cow. Never have I regretted more being on a low-carb diet as I do after reading this. Chocolate and peanut butter? Yummy bread? Gaaah! Ah well.

  17. My favorite seasonal treat is 7-Eleven Pumpkin Spice Lattes (216 cals for 12 oz-small). Has to be 7-eleven, the starbucks/dunkin' donuts aren't as good. It's an occasional treat as I don't like to drink my calories!!

  18. Three Cedars Farm in South Lyon has the most incredible cider slushies. I look forward to them every fall. I even trade the donuts (which are also awesome) to be able to really enjoy that splurge. So freaking good.

  19. My favorite is apple cider! I can drink gallon after gallon of it...usually one gallon a week. So far I've only had one half gallon...it's been hard. :)

  20. Yes! Yes! The apple bread. With very, very sharp cheddar cheese. A. Mazing.

  21. Okay, I weigh less than you but your waist is an inch smaller than mine. It stinks being pear-shaped! I will never fit into size 4 pants like you do. I try to focus on being active and eating well for my health and not so much for what the scale says. It helps me stay mentally sane that way so I don't get too depressed about my bottom-heavy body. Congrats on getting back on track and losing steady.

  22. Tried those breads and I loved them. The brown sugar/cinnamon kind is my favorite though. Always toast them though to bring out the flavors and the scent is heavenly. (:
