The lumps and bumps

This will be the last you read about my damn marathon outfit, I promise! I went to Dunham's today to return the wrong-size capris, and while I was there, I searched for another outfit. I found a yellow shirt to possibly wear with my yellow slash capris, so I picked that up to try on. I also picked out a light turquoise shirt and capris to match (although they weren't as cute as the slash capris).

Some of you mentioned that you don't see how I could have "lumps and bumps", so I will show you a picture of what I'm talking about. This takes a lot of courage to post, so please be nice! I will show you comparisons of shirts. These are all the same brand (Under Armour), but different sizes and fits...

Cringe! These are the lumps and bumps I was talking about.

Way too see-through! You can see my belly button.

This is the one I'm going to wear. It's not to tight, not too loose, and it matches my capris!

Despite the fact that the yellow is kind of see-through, I'm going to wear the semi-fitted yellow shirt with the yellow slash capris. Please don't tell me it's the wrong choice, because I'm so sick of thinking about this stupid outfit! I'm going to have my waist-pack (water bottle thing) on, so my stomach won't even be too visible regardless.

See what I mean, by clothes hiding a lot of flaws? Since I just had a lower body lift, my upper body still has a lot of excess skin. My arms are the worst, but also under my arms, and even my upper back. It's not "fat", you can see bulges from my loose skin. I'm not too worried about it. The stomach REALLY bothered me (obviously, because I had the skin removed); but the upper body is just normal annoyances, I think. I just have to take care when picking out clothes.

So I finally got that taken care of. I just took the shirt to a place about 30 minutes away to have my blog address printed on the back, as well as my name printed on the front... they told me it would take 3 days. I was really bummed! So I won't have that stuff on there, but at this point, I really don't care. I just want to be done thinking about the clothes.

Jessica and I had our LAST training run today!! It was a 2-miler... and no, that's not a typo. Two miles. We actually met at a frozen custard shop and ran one mile out and then back. We did our fastest pace to date, I'm sure... a 9:29/mi pace.

I kept telling Jessica we were going too fast, and she better not pull that shit on Sunday, or she'll be running alone. It barely felt like we even started our run before we had to turn around. We finished and ordered frozen yogurt, of course! They had strawberry and chocolate, so I ordered a twist of the two. Jessica just ordered the strawberry.

Supposedly, the 4-oz serving of frozen yogurt was only 70 calories! I should go there more often. That was totally worth 70 calories.

Tomorrow morning, Jerry, me, and the boys are leaving for Cleveland. We're probably going to go to the zoo and maybe the science center tomorrow. Jessica isn't leaving for Cleveland until Saturday, so I'll meet up with her then. Renee and Andrea are going as well, and they will be our cheerleaders on Sunday. I am SO excited that they are going to be there! They've both run marathons before, so they know how big of a deal this is to Jessica and me.

I'm going to bring my computer with me, to hopefully write a blog at the hotel on Friday and Saturday, but I don't know for sure if I'll have internet access. If not, you'll probably get a race report on Sunday night--if I survive, that is! ;)

  1. Honey all those shirts are freaking amazing on you! I don't see a lump or bump but for your boobs & those are suppose to be there...lol

  2. I think you look great in all the outfits, but I get what you're saying - it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks, it's how you feel in the clothes and your comfort level. But I definitely dig the color choice. :)

I am so excited to read your race report for the marathon!

  4. Im glad you found something you are comfortable in. Thats the main thing. But honestly, they all look great on you!

I have my first "official" race on Saturday. Its a 7k and im struggling with what to wear too. I have the shoes and socks picked out. But i am having the worst anxiety about it. Like nightmare last night, and could puke if i think about it too much, anxiety. My goal is to not puke...and to finish it. Even if im the last one across the finish line.

So, good luck this weekend..and send some of your mojo my way!

When you said yesterday that you have lumps on your body I was expecting to see lumps and bumps. I saw none! You look great! All of the shirts, even the snug fitted ones, look great on you. We all see our body differently than what everyone else sees. Good luck on your marathon!

  9. I know what you mean about lumps and bumps but we are most critical of ourselves. I was one of the peeps that said there was no way you had them. I still don't think you do. I honestly think you look the best in the fitted medium. I'm glad you didn't get the large blue one though. Too frumpy. When do we get to see the back of the slash capris?

  10. you look great! Good luck on your run!

  11. You look great in all those shirts. I actually think you look better in the smaller sizes. And the yellow.... That is your color. You look great in yellow.

Also in agreement that you look fine in all the outfits, but you picked the right one. I don't think the yellow is all that see thru either and it's just a belly button anyway. Not like a nipple or something LOL. If you really want your name and URL on there, why not check out iron on letters from the craft store? You're so crafty you could just line them up and iron them on. If you have time.

  13. I wanted to say two things. First, I totally understand what you mean about lumps and bumps. I'm SO hard on myself. I will change shirts five times because of lumps and bumps. And I'm no where near my goal weight yet. I've lost 55 pounds and keep wondering how many more I have to lose to make those lumps littler!
Second: You looked amazing in every shirt. While you may not have been comfortable don't knock yourself down. You looked great!
    Best of luck on Sunday!

Now why in the world would UA make such a thin shirt? You're right...the original yellow one you bought is totally see through. As the others have said, you looked great in all of them, and my fav is the outfit that you picked (last one). Yellow is perfect! Yellow symbolizes wisdom. Yellow means joy and happiness. People of high intellect favor yellow. Sunday's color is yellow-gold.

Very proud of you! And sending the very best wishes to you and Jessica!

  15. The fitted medium turquoise is the only one I think isn't flattering, I think you look awesome in all the others, even the yellow one you returned!

  17. I understand you don't feel comfortable, but I think you look fantastic! The only lumps I see are your ribs and some weird lump that must be the security tag on the pants? What you picked out is perfect!

I hope they have internet access at the hotel! But you should take a break and enjoy yourself! (I loved that you told Jessica that she better not pull that shit on marathon day!)

    ReplyDelete
  18. You look great!! The only bumps I see are ribs. But I would go with the one you picked as well because the looser fit seems more comfortable to me.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I honestly didn't see any lumps and bumps--just beautiful you!

Have a great weekend and enjoy your marathon! I know you and Jess will do GREAT!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. i like the way the one you are wearing to the marathon looks on you. it just hits you in the right places.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I personally think you look good in all of those tops, BUT I also know it doesn't really matter what other people think, it's how you feel. If you didn't feel comfortable, then you would be self-conscious during your race and that is NOT what you need! Whatever makes you happiest is the best choice for you.

That being said, I know you'll do awesome on Sunday. I hope you enjoy the mini-vacation with your family. I can't wait to hear how you did!

    ReplyDelete
  22. You look great in all the shirts! Good luck! So excited for you- you'll do awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  23. i sincerely didn't see any lumps of bumps...i though you looked fantastic in those fittes shirts! BUT-you have to feel comfortable and confident in yourself so that's what counts the most. You look just as beautiful in that last shot as the others and you are comfortable too so there you go! Good luck on Sunday!! A marathon is on my bucket list. I can't even run 3 miles yet...it'll be awhile yet. Enjoy your weekend!

  24. Just a thought , you could buy iron on letters at a craft store and write your name and blog on your shirt....they come in all colors and sizes and fonts, easy quick and pretty cheap, it'll make your marathon outfit complete! Good luck!!!

  26. Ummm . . . you can TOTALLY pull off the sleeveless shirt! Obviously you need to pick clothes that you feel comfortable in, but I think the sleevess shirt looks great!

    ReplyDelete
  27. First of all... you look FABULOUS!! Yellow was an awesome choice so you can wear your sweet slash capris :) And the fit of the shirt you chose is very flattering!

Second... have an AWESOME weekend!! I know I speak for the thousands of people reading your blog when I say we can't wait to hear the marathon report!!! You've got this!

  28. You look fantastic in all of them! I totally get the loose workout clothes though. I dont like tight clothing when I'm working out. It makes me feel more self consious. I hope your "first" is an awesome experience...and maybe changes your mind about "only" :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Just wanted to say you look great in all the outfits...But I can understand you have to feel ok and comfortable. I love the outfit you picked and the capris are oh so cute! I want a pair but they wouldn't fit my butt just yet. lol Have a great time and can't wait to read about it..

    ReplyDelete
  30. The only "lumps and bumps" are see are in the sleeveless turquoise and even that I think is a simple matter of the built in bra hitting in the wrong place. You look awesome in all of them, please believe that!

I'm so excited to read your post marathon update!

  31. I totally understand about lumps and bumps. I have similar lumps as you, particularly 2 lumps under my boobs on my ribs. What is that?! Go away! haha! I think you have a great outfit and I know it's been frustrating but it's SO important to take the time for something comfortable! I also want to commend you on putting comfort first. A friend of mine lost a good amount of weight and all she cares about is being a size small. She wears clothing she's always tugging at that isn't flattering, just so she can says she's a small. How pointless! Anyway! I just can't wait to hear about the race!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Perfect choice on the top! I was just telling my friend today that I hate it when I'm walking in the wind and feel my shirt blowing tight against me, it feels like it outlines everything. No bueno. So I totally get not wanting to wear the tighter shirts.
I (and tons of other readers I'm sure) will be sending you positive vibes on your big day! So excited for you, and thanks for including us on your journey!

  36. No, no, no! Don't wear a new outfit. Wear your tried and true, tested on a 20 miler outfit. It's not a fashion show. One misplaced seam will have you bleeding by the end of 26.2!

    Good luck, remember to smile.

It is so funny what we see when we look in the mirror that no one else sees! When I look at your pictures I don't see any bulges.....not one! However I know that no matter how many people tell you that it won't change your mind! You look fabulous in all of the outfits but I'm glad you finally picked one! It's important that you feel comfortable in what you're wearing because the last thing you need to worry about on race day is what you're wearing! I can't wait to hear how it goes (although I'm sure you will do great)! Have a good weekend :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well all of them look fabulous on you, but I hear you. The last top is exactly how I like my tops to fit, not too tight, not too loose. Good Luck with the marathon!

I like the choice on top you Made Katie,, all though the others were fine,, but I know what its like to be self concious so I understand all that.

I am so excited for you,, you have put in some awesome training,, I feel you are going to have a fantastic experience . You have a great friend to run with Which is really important . One last piece of advice I might give you If I may,, you and Jess I am sure have a plan for water stops,,you should make a tenative plan just in case you get seperated at a water stop,, they are really busy,, and can be overwhelming . I know this happend to me and My Buddy and we didnt have a plan in place,, and we got seperated for a bit. I was so bummed as I didnt know if she was waiting for me,, or had gone on ahead,,, fortunenatly we hooked back up,, but from now on we will have a plan . Have a great Run Katie and Jessica,, Enjoy your Marathon experience,, I cant wait for your report XXOO

PS,, where do you girls get the Headbands you wear ?

  40. I have to say I agree with everyone....the tighter shirts look absolutely fine on you! I love the yellow one you order from Under Armor! It looks great on you!! You so don't have anything to be ashamed of!

Good Luck on Sunday! I hope one day to run a full marathon!

You look great in all your outfits but yes, you need to run in what you are most comfortable with. And here's my little piece of assvice---don't do too much the day before your marathon--seriously--save your energy for the race. Also, wear compression socks for the trip back. I've run 9 marathons and travelling immediately after is rough but can be done! You will be awesome!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I honestly do not see the lumps and bumps but if *you* do that is all that matters, there is nothing worse that being self conscious and trying to have a good day. I am glad you found something you will be comfortable in!

Good Luck and I can't wait to hear all about the race!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh and about the lettering, maybe hit up a craft store for iron-on lettering? Or if you have or know someone with great handwriting, just some fabric paint?

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree with the others--lumps and bumps?!?! Where?!?! You look great in all of them! But, you do need to be comfortable and if you're worried about how your shirt fits, you won't be able to concentrate on anything else.
Best of luck at the race! Can't wait to hear all about it!

  53. I aspire to look like you do in any of those outfits. Wonderful, beautiful! We're always toughest on ourselves, so please hear these masses assure you that you look fab. That said, I get that you need to feel comfortable, so rock the yellow!

Just wanted you to know that regardless of the size, you look great. Your "lumps and bumps" size actually looks totally normal, BUT, I totally understand as I've recently lost 65 lbs and have the same feelings.

We are so much more critical to ourselves than anyone else can be. Love yourself in any size shirt, you look great. Sometimes, lumps and bumps show how healthy we are :-)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Wow, I have much more lumps and as for the bumps... Those shirts really do show everything but you look great in them, believe me! However, you need to wear what you feel good in. Also, the fitted shirts won't be as comfortable if it is hot. Good luck and have fun!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Lumps and bumps?!?!?! You look amazing! But I understand, I recently lost a little over 100 lbs (75 or more to go), and I have a few lumps and bumps I've never seen before! Grrr. But you look amazing, and your blog is such an inspiration for people, such as myself, who are also fighting to accomplish what you have. Congrats! And good luck at the race! Enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Wow the size difference in those shirts must have been frustrating! Were any of them compression? I like the Yellow! It may not be as see-thru outside, florescent lights...

    ReplyDelete
  60. You are going to do AWESOME at your marathon! I am SO psyched for you!! Oh and for what it's worth - I think you look amazing in ALL of those shirts! I think we're always our own worst critic!

  63. Nothing anyone tells you is gonna make you feel differently I know that but seriously, you look freaking amazing in all of those get ups. I honestly do not see lumps and bumps even in the see through one. One day I hope I look as fabulous as you.

Good luck, have a fabulous marathon and I can't wait to hear how it goes.

  64. Honey those are god given bones! No lumps or bumps at all, skeletal matter! Ribs! You look amazing! You look like you could be on the cover of Shape Magazine! No go run your bootie off and show us how it is done!

    ReplyDelete
  65. THose aren't bumps, those are your ribs! I think the smaller shirts look better - but you'll look great in any of them!

    ReplyDelete
  66. That semi-fitted yellow shirt does look great on you! I don't think the fitted one looked bad, though I understand the concern about the fitted one being more see-through than you wanted. I'll second that you look amazing.

Wish you the best for your big day!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think the outfit you picked looked good. Nice and comfy but, honestly, I think you are being too hard on yourself. You looked fine in all of the outfits, I didn't see any lumps or bumps. The main thing is you feel comfortable and confident in what your wearing. Good luck!!

  68. I really like the shirt you picked! It was my favorite!!!

  69. 1. They all look great, but I do see how you're most comfortable in the last one. I would be too! Looks good.
    2. I used to read your blog for inspiration before I headed out on my run (I run in the evenings because waking up before work to go running would be less pleasurable then having my teeth pulled out every day). But now that it's published later this is also great! It gets to be my reward for running.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I think you look great in all the outfits- even the sleeveless one. I understand where your mind is at though- a lot of times people who have lost a lot of weight can't truly see their new body and are plauged with insecurities left over from being overweight.

It's kinda discouraging to read as person who is working on loosing 100+ pounds. And it's not just you, but I lost 60 pounds 10 years ago and even after working out 6-7 days a week and being a size 4, I still had all that loose skin that never went away, and I'll never have the insurance or money to get surgery for it. Sometimes I feel I'd rather be unhappy with my body while eating cake and cookies then being thin and eating a salad if I'm never gonna like what I see.
