Pecan pancakes

Today was Jen and Angela's last day in Michigan. They spent the morning getting some work done at my parents' house, and I met Renee for coffee. I got there before Renee, and when I ordered my coffee, I accidentally ordered a regular coffee instead of decaf. I hadn't had regular coffee in 8 months!! I was worried how it was going to affect me, but I just decided to drink it anyways.

Renee showed up shortly after, and it was really good to talk to her. She told me about the job that she was applying for, and we talked a little bit about marathon training. She's going to be running the NYC marathon this fall. I'm really excited for her, since this was her fourth year applying! She knew that if she applied three years in a row and didn't make it, she would automatically be "in" the fourth year--and she was (they just changed that rule, unfortunately, so you truly have to win the lottery to get in from now on). So she'll be training right around the same time as when I'm training for Detroit. (She's much faster than me, so unfortunately, I won't be doing my runs with her).

She said she definitely thinks I can aim higher on my time goal for the marathon. Rik said the same thing when I talked to him the other night. So I'm going to re-evaluate my goal and pick a time that I have to work for, but not strive for something out-of-reach. Not sure what it will be yet. I'm going to come up with an "A-goal" a "B-goal" and a "C-goal".

On the way home from my meeting with Renee, I started to get really jittery. My hands were trembling like crazy. But when I got in the house, the last thing I wanted to do was sit down, so I started cleaning. I actually wanted to clean! So I think I made a decision to start drinking regular coffee again, hahaha. I actually got some housework done, which was badly needed.

After that, Angela and Jennifer came over for our last filming before they were going back home. They wanted to film me blogging (which they were actually doing as I wrote the first three paragraphs of this blog); as well as film me talking about our team and how we are getting to know each other and become great friends via our team Facebook page. This is kind of a cool picture of Angela filming me while I was blogging...
After we were done filming that, we decided to go to Cracker Barrel for lunch. Angela wanted to go because she's never been to one! I always thought Cracker Barrel was a big chain that was everywhere, but Angela said they don't have them in L.A. As they were packing up their camera equipment, Estelle decided she had enough of living with us, and she packed herself up in the camera case...
She actually fit in that spot perfectly. I almost had Jennifer convinced to take Paolo with her, but she said she didn't think her landlord would let her have a cat. Bummer! (And no, I haven't given up hope finding Paolo a home that isn't mine!). I wanted to get a picture with them before they left, of course...
I look so short ;)  That is Jennifer on the left and Angela on the right. After that, we all headed to Cracker Barrel with Jerry and the boys. I got the pecan pancakes, and they were delicious!! I decided that the pecan pancakes will be my treat after my long runs for my marathon training... definitely something to look forward to!

Then it was time to say good-bye, because Jennifer and Angela had to head to the airport. I was so sad to see them leave! It was a lot of fun to hang out with them for the past few days. I won't see Jennifer again until we're in Miami. Angela is going to come here to film Rik and I meeting for the first time in October when we run the Detroit Marathon together.

Now it's back to reality. I have a TON of laundry to catch up on, as well as e-mail, blog reading, and some other blog-related stuff. But Jerry is off this weekend, so I plan on spending quality time with him and the boys as my top priority. What a fun few days it has been!

  1. I've also never eaten at a Cracker Barrel, I've barely even heard of it! :)

    1. I have found the food at Cracker Barrel pretty bland, and if you look around, there's lots of old people in there. But then I guess I would fit right in! But the pecan pancakes sure sound good.

  2. So excited for my turn! Very happy that you hit it off really well, too!

We don't have Cracker Barrels here, either. I think the closest one is either in CT or NJ. We hit it up A LOT when we were in FL last time. I just love going out for breakfast, even though it's probably my favorite meal to prepare at home!

  3. That picture of a picture reminds me of a shot I took in Venice years ago. There was this woman painting a homeless man who was asleep, and I took a picture of the two of them, so the homeless man was pictured twice. :D Silly, but that's what it reminded me of.

We have Cracker Barrels around here, but they aren't very good. Everything on the menu is deep-fat fried and it all tastes exactly the same. :/

  4. Very cool picture in picture! I enjoyed "meeting" Jennifer and Angela tis week. :)

If you like their pecan pancakes, you should try their apple dumpling in the fall, which is topped with a pecan streusel. The whole thing is DIVINE!! I love me some Cracker Barrell. ;)

  5. Thank you to you and your family for everything. It really was such a special time for us and I'm so happy that we've been forming this friendship. It was amazing… and Cracker Barrel was YUM even tho I have a bit of "food regret" that I didn't order a breakfast… (and this is why I'll always have to worry about my weight - nine hours later and I'm still thinking about lunch!) ha.

  6. So I was looking at the pic they took of you while filming and I thought - I bet she is glad she got her carpet replaced. And that your house is amazingly clean despite your protestations.

It suddenly dawns on me that I concentrate on the irrelevant.

Good idea aiming a little higher. Try it and see how it makes you feel. Maybe less races, but more quality if you HAVE to choose.

    How's the toe nail?

  7. So looking forward to seeing this project after its completed... such a great subject matter and so many of you have great stories, it will be neat to see you all come together for the relay!!

  8. I like the A goal B goal C goal idea! Maybe I will apply that for my current runs. Mmm, pancakes sound so good right now. I haven't lost any weight in the past month, just maintaining, so I'm trying to buckle down and get back into strict boot camp mode again. Sadly for me, pancakes don't make the cut! :)

  9. You sound much more upbeat today. Maybe caffeine is the secret to pushing away the depressing overwhelming thoughts. I've been thinking about your blow yesterday and there was another thing I wanted to say about feeling "overwhelmed." Life can be like that sometimes. I remember when my boys were younger, I was working full-time and on Saturdays would start on laundry. With 3 boys, a working mom and dad, you can imagine the laundry I had to do every week and sometimes I truly felt "overwhelmed" by it all. Now I don't want to be a downer, but then one morning 22 years ago, I got a call from my Dad in the middle of the night that my Mom had collapsed at home and was at the hospital and it didn't look good. She died that night. Talk about overwhelming. So now whenever I feel the slightest bit overwhelmed, I think about that truly overwhelming loss in my life and am just grateful for being overwhelmed by the ordinary things I have to do everyday.

  10. Now your "blow", your BLOG! ARGH!!!!

  11. Oh good grief...not NOW, but NOT! I can't do anything right.

  12. They are famous for their pecan pancakes! They closed the one close to us so we haven't been there in years but that is exactly what I would get when I went there!

  13. Katie,

I stumbled upon your blog via Pinterest and have been a major "Runs for Cookies" addict the last two weeks! You and your readers have inspired me to start (once again) making healthier decisions in order to drop this weight for good. I must say, as stalker-y as it sounds, that I'm a little sad now that I've finished reading every last post on the site... what's a girl to do with free time at work and only one or two blogs a day?!

    Thanks everyone!

  14. Katie,I too just came across your journey from Pinterest. I just spent the last 2 hours reading your stories, all the entries about your broken jaw, your cosmetic surgery, the Dr Oz appearance and a few others.!!!! Picture me standing up and clapping my hands. I look forward to continuing reading your blog. Congrats on your weight loss and accomplishments. You look fab! (And I couldn't believe those frocks the stylist picked for you for Dr Oz, considering you lost over 100lbs those dresses did nothing to show you off! Your choice was much more flattering and sexy!)

I'd love to hear from you! I read all of my comments, and if you have a question, I do my best to respond; sometimes, however, I get busy and forget to go back to reply, so if it's important, just email me! :)
