My Victoria's not-so-Secret purchase

I got up bright and early today to get ready for my doctor's appointment. Remember how I mentioned that I had a little pucker of skin where my drain tube was after surgery? The skin kind of folded a little while it healed, so Dr. Tepper wanted to fix that with a simple, in-office procedure.

Since I was going to be in Dearborn anyway, I asked Jessica and Renee if they'd want to come with me and then we could go out to lunch at none other than LA PITA--yum!  I drove up there and then gave them my Jeep to go to the mall or out for coffee or something while I had my appointment.

The appointment went very well. They had a room that was like a mini-OR set up, and I had to lie on the table. The nurse gave me a heated blanket to cover with--love those things! Dr. Tepper gave me a local injection to numb me, so I didn't feel anything. It was very strange to watch her work though--using a scalpel and stitches and all the surgical stuff. I could feel some tugging, but no pain. The stitches she used are internal and will dissolve, so the scar looks just like it did before, only without the pucker.

After my appointment was over, Renee and Jessica picked me up and we went to the mall. They both agreed that the dress I picked out yesterday made me look old--lol, I'm so glad that I have friends that are honest!--so they had found a couple that they liked while I was at my appointment. I tried on one at Forever 21 and it was WAY.TOO.SHORT. Like, you could see my you-know-what if I bend over kind of short.

We went to Victoria's Secret next, which as you all know, I was excited to buy something cute/sexy with my gift cards. I tried on about five things, but I really fell in love with the one I ended up buying. And since there is no way in hell I would ever post a photo of me wearing it, I'll show you what it looks like on the hanger ;)
Super cute, right? And of course it was super expensive, so not only did I have to use both my gift cards, but all the rest of my birthday money as well. Ah, the things we do to feel sexy ;)

After that, we went to Express so I could try on the other dress that Renee and Jessica picked out. I loved it!! I'm a little self-conscious of it because it's strapless, and my arms have a lot of excess skin, but I can wear a shrug with it if needed. Maybe I'll post a photo on Saturday. I think I might wear it to Winers Saturday night, just for fun.

Then it was time for the most important part of the day--LUNCH AT LA PITA! Renee suggested martinis, and I was definitely on board with that idea, since I'd never had one before. We each had a dirty martini to start:
Jessica, Renee, and me
I was very surprised that I drank the entire martini. I really thought I would hate it, because I'm not a liquor person at all--but I rather liked it!

Then we had warm pita bread with lots of garlic sauce, and then our entrees of a chicken kabob, rice pilaf, salad, hummus, and more garlic sauce. I was in Heaven! I tried to take a picture for you all, but as I've mentioned before... THIS is why I'm no food blogger:
See that little black ramekin with white stuff in it? That is the garlic sauce, and is my sole reason for living favorite part about La Pita!

And since I got a free birthday dessert, I definitely couldn't pass that up--we shared a piece of carrot cake. It was amazing, despite the fact that I was stuffed from the rest of my lunch.

Came home and really wanted to just lie down and digest my food, but I've got a lot of cleaning to do. The kids are spending the night at my parents' house tonight, and Jerry is off work tomorrow, so we're going to be spending the day working on the house. Fun, fun, fun.

  1. Happy (late) birthday!!! Honestly, things just keep getting better, the saying "youth is wasted on the young" is pretty true.

Sounds like a great day, we don't have La Pita where I live, I haven't even ever heard of it, but it looks really yummy!

I really want to see the dress you got!

  2. The garlic stuff is my favorite part of living in Metro Detroit! :) I really want to know what is in it so I can make it myself. The last time I tried it was a disaster! oh well.

    PS. Super cute nighty!

  5. LOVE the little teddy. I bet you look super cute in it. I bought one at Victoria's Secret too, but with my saggy arms and legs, only my hubby will ever see me in it. Man, that is one expensive store!

Can't wait to see the dress you picked out. I've been looking at dresses too, I always wanted a little black dress. But almost all the dresses I see are either sleeveless or short sleeved. But I did find a cute shrug at Dress Barn. So maybe I could get the sleeveless dress and wear the shrug with it to cover the flabby arms? We have a wedding to attend in October (I know that's a LONG ways off), but I would so like to wear a really cute dress to it.

Glad you got the pucker taken care of--you look so cute in that picture with your friends. Nice of them to go with you, and help you shop and EAT!
Now I'm off to buy a new bra, some weights to carry when I walk, and maybe some biscoff. If I can find any.

  9. Have you ever heard of dry skin brushing for extra skin? I've been looking into it recently and am intrigued.

    1. If you're talking about exfoliating more often for saggy skin, I did actually hear about that on Dr. Oz's show. I don't know if there really is any truth to it, but I scrub under my arms extra hard in the shower just in case ;)

  13. Ooh lala! That lingerie is gorgeous! I have a few pretty little bedroom slips I've long grown out of, and that's part of my motivation to get in shape! Food photographer or not, that food looks sooooo good! I love garlic!

  14. Katie, This reminds me of a question I've had for a while. I admit, I haven't made it through all your posts yet. But, how did you manage your clothing (and your budget) when you were dropping pants sizes and clothing sizes every month? If you haven't done a post about that yet, I'd love to hear about it. If you have, can someone point me in the right direction?

    1. I'm sure Katie will answer, but her most recent post was http://runsforcookies.com/2011/12/clothes-that-9-can-buy.html. She's an awesome bargain shopper!

    2. It's true, I'm definitely a bargain shopper ;) I LOVE thrift stores, and I found that the smaller I got, the more cute clothes I could find there. I hit up garage sales in the summer time, and if I absolutely needed something NEW, I would buy it on clearance at Wal-Mart. I didn't buy a ton of stuff because I only needed about enough to get through a month, when I would drop another size.

  17. Sounds like a great day even if a little surgical procedure was thrown in to shake things up. Love the little va va voomer! Why not post a pic of you in it? You mean you don't want to be pinned all over Pinterest in it? HA! Have a great weekend!

  18. Katie, I've never posted before, but have been following your blog. You HAVE to post the new dress! Well, I guess you technically don't HAVE to... but seeing those cute little dresses and lingerie are what keep some of us from diving into the box of doughnuts in the breakroom!! Can you tell I'm on a dieter on the edge this morning? :)

  23. I just found you through pinterest and I have to say you look awesome!!! I live in South Bend, Indiana but am originally from Fenton, MI and my husband is from Dearborn Heights....I, too, had a tummy tuck after about a 30 pound weight loss and I would recommend it to anyone with sagging skin! I had a lot of back problems after my third baby and having the abdominus rectus muscle fixed, I have none!!! I had mine done September 2010 and started running February 2011. I am now 40 and have run in two 5ks!!! I am now down another 13 pounds and am training for a 10k in the summer. Congrats on all you've done. If you ever want to meet up when I'm home you can check "meet a blog reader" off your list!
