Flooded

So I curled up on the couch in my pj's this morning, opened my laptop to check my e-mail, and discovered that my inbox was FLOODED with Sparkmail messages, Sparkfriend requests, and comments on my video blog that I had posted in January. I was really confused! I'm used to getting 2-3 of these things daily, but there were over 350 e-mails this morning, so I started trying to figure it out.

I noticed that this blog had a ton of page views overnight, also:
Usually I get about 70-100 page views per day... look what happened last night!  Wha?!
Then a Sparkfriend of mine clued me in. Apparently Sparkpeople posted my weight loss video on Facebook last night:

Crazy, right?!  I had so much fun drinking my coffee and reading all the comments. You know what the first thought that went through my head was, however?  "Oh no! I think I said "fuck" in my lastest blog entry! THAT is what all my new readers are seeing!"  LOL, sorry, but I do have a potty mouth sometimes. Anyway, thank you to all my readers--new and old--and for all the super nice comments!

My kids and I went for a really nice bike ride this morning. I still didn't get to go fast (my kids are small and quite slow!) but we took our time doing about 2.2 miles and stopping to take pictures and stuff like that.
My boys on their bikes

Lake Erie

And, just to show you how slow this ride really was...

I WALK faster than that ;)

So I warned you about my horrible weigh-in I was sure to have today. It was so bad that I won't even tell you that I gained 7 pounds. I won't tell you that my weight was 149 way up from last week!  However, I've been doing really well today, so hopefully we won't jinx it.  I'm getting so far behind on my calorie bank thingy, so I'm deleting it.

I'm also going to delete my Summer Challenge page. The only goal I was doing very well at was the exercise--I exercised every day in June! But I definitely re-injured my knee, and my body was screaming for a break, so I don't want to push it. I enjoy tolerate exercise way better when I only work out 3-4 days per week. I'm going to try and be more active on a daily basis, however. Like today's bike ride with the boys. It wasn't a "workout", but definitely an "activity".

I've been working on a video to post tomorrow, for my one-year anniversary of 100 pounds lost. It's probably not as fun to watch as the weight loss video, but it sums up my first year of maintaining a large loss.

Since I have some new followers after the whole Sparkpeople tada last night, why not introduce yourself in a comment below?? Please include a link to your blog or Sparkpage or website or something too, if you have one; and tell me how you came across my blog! I always read my comments and check out blog links, even though I rarely respond to comments--I guess I always think that a response will get lost and you'll never see it! But seriously, old reader or new, introduce yourself! :)

  3. Yesterday when I saw that post from Facebook, I had one of those double-take sorts of moments. I recognized the picture and my first thought was wait, I don't have Katie as one of my facebook friends... Took me a minute to figure it out, lol. :D

I hope all the traffic isn't too intimidating...

  4. i found you from the Spark post on facebook!
I absolutely adore your blog. and i also love that you used the F-word in your post(it made me smile, i'm totally a potty mouth too).
My weight is all over the place..i've been miserable at about 190 for about 7 years now, dropped to 149 after my separation(2.5 yrs ago) and now i'm back up to 190 again(insert F-word here!!!).
You're an inspiration girl! Live it up! and please keep writing!

  5. I also found you thanks to Facebook and Spark! Your video was fantastic!! I started on Valentine's Day this year trying to lose 80 pounds with the help of a blog. I just hit the halfway point at 50 pounds lost and was losing my steam, for sure. I added in running with the Couch to 5K program 9 weeks ago (final workout this Friday!!), and I am registered for the Women's Half Marathon here in Nashville in September. My blog is at http://80pounds40weeks.blogspot.com, and I would LOVE for you to check it out!!

Seeing you live in Michigan was close to my heart, as well. My husband was born and raised in Ann Arbor, and we lived there for our first two years together. We are currently in Nashville, TN, where he works and I am a stay at home mom to our 4 kids...the oldest just recently turned age 5!! So, yes, I'm busy and tempted daily by peanut butter and jelly. I never knew what a weakness I held for that sandwich. Ha!

So, not sure what this says about my own personal sailor/potty mouth, but I didn't even notice the F word. :)

  6. @Audrey J.

Sorry, just noticed I referred to the "halfway point" and wanted to make sure nobody thinks I think 50 pounds is half of 80. I meant "halfway" because I was trying to do it in 40 weeks...and I just finished up week 20...

Sigh. Did I mention I have a lot of small kids at home? They take a lot of brain cells to control. ;)

I just started spark (rednrosy27). I am in my fourth and final year of grad school in Michigan. I found your blog and video through facebook and love what I've seen/read so far! I've been overweight my entire life and feel like I've tried nearly everything to lose weight. Over the last 3 years in school, I've gained about 60-65 pounds and I'm just disgusted with myself. I I decided to give Spark People a try, although I'm also paying for Weight Watchers online. (Early) Congratulations on 1 year without those 100 pounds!! :-)

  10. Well, thats one way to wake up, isn't it?! :) I found your blog a few weeks ago... but I don't remember how. Like it here. Keep em' coming. :)

  11. I actually found you about a week ago or something like that. I saw you comment on one of the blogs of someone else I follow. I think it was Diaries of a fat girl. Anyways, my name is Jen. I am a single mom to an almost 3 year old. I started my journey to healthier living on January 15th and am down 66 lbs so far. I'm hoping to make it to ONEderland by August and hopefully to a goal of weighing 150 lbs before the year is over. I've never been that small in my life, so once I get there then I'll decide whether or not I need to lose more or just try to maintain I suppose.

I do have a sparkpage but haven't really used it a lot. I was just messing around with it again here recently though adding some new pictures since its been over a year since I last used it. I was using fatsecret for the longest time instead.

    Here is my blog:

and I've also started doing a few video blog posts.

  13. I love when you swear! Since you really do, WHEN you do it puts the icing on the cake. That and you are so cute and nice, and then you drop an F-bomb, and I'm reminded that you are human! (not that I didn't think that you were - guess it make you seem more 'real' to me, than just some internet blogger)

That is crazy about the sparkpeople thing! Very cool though!

  15. Hey Katie,

I sent you an email last night, did you happen to get it?

I saw your video a few weeks ago, super cool!!!

    be well!

  16. I found your blog from your Sparkpage (I'm Candyxpert)about a month or so ago. I love your blog posts and look forward to reading them daily.
I'm a mom to 2 kiddos (4 and 10)and we live in Montreal. I have been trying to loose the same 30 lbs for years. I go up and down but never seem to get to my goal. I'm amazed at people who loose 100+ lbs and I can't seem to loose 30. Sigh.
I started running in March and did my first 5K in June. Running has not helped me loose weight so far.
My blog is about my kids and adoption, not so much about weight loss.

  17. I'm a new reader, hi katie! My name is Chetney, or Czeshia. I live in Milwaukee and enjoy my time with my husband and puppy dog. :)

You can check out my blog (where I wrote about you last night) at www.czesialives.blogspot.com and also at my sparkpage at http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage.asp?id=CZESHIA

I'm so glad to have found your website and watch you video, you really make me feel like i can keep going! I just got over a couple month long plateau that almost derailed my whole weight loss...but now I am halfway to my goal and i can't wait!

  18. Hi! I found you via the post on Facebook. Congratulations on your weight loss!

I started losing weight in November of 2009. I started out at 238.2 pounds (I'm 5'6"). I originally wanted to get under 200, but when I got close to 200, I thought 185 sounded better. Then 155 sounded good. I made it to 154.2 last December (so 84 pounds lost) and I've managed to maintain the loss for over six months. My husband has been losing, too. He's down almost 100 pounds and has another 20 to go. We lost by counting points like you, and didn't actually join WW. For exercise, I've been walking a lot, and have been considering trying running.

    Anyway, love your blog! =D

  19. Hello :) Like most people, I saw that Spark posted your video on Facebook, I'm NAH_85. I had seen it a long time ago but decided to check it out again. I'm going through a rough patch of always feeling hungry and not being consistent with exercising. I've lost 40lbs and hoping to get back on track soon. Love hearing about your ups and downs, and congrats on running. I started running in March and have now completed two 2mile races and my very first 5k in June. It's such a great feeling! I would love to one day build up my courage and stamina for a half marathon. Good luck on your journey!

  21. Good Morning! I found you via Sparkpeople, and think your story is really inspiring. In fact, I was so inspired I got up this morning a7 5:30 and started the C25K program! I look forward to reading your posts, and don't worry about the salty language, I use it all the time. Thanks for sharing your story.

  22. Good Morning Katie,

I follow 3 weight loss blogs and yours is my favorite, by far. I recommend it to all my friends. I love that you are inspiring, yet down to earth. You have inspired me to start my own blog - just for myself.

    http://findingmyway-michellechristine.blogspot.com/

Here is my disclaimer about the blog in case anyone visits it:

Please don't judge me. I know I don't have "a lot" of weight to lose. However, I have been a yo-you dieter for my whole life and I have the same "fat girl mentality" as many of my larger friends. Plus, anyone who has tried to lose the last 15 or 20 pounds can attest that it is a challenge. I know sometimes at WW meetings, I have heard larger people harshly judge those with less to lose. We all have the same issues!

For the record Katie, the first time I noticed a curse work in your blog it made me smile. I love that you are "real". I enjoy that you blog about your family and your ups and downs. I can't wait to see your video and think you could write a book. :)

    Michelle,
(I hope you see this reply): I completely understand where you're coming from. I was judged harshly when I was fat (for being fat) and now I am judged just as harshly for being thin. I went into a WW meeting in Januar to check out the materials for their new program, and the receptionists were so rude to me. One of them even rolled her eyes when she weighed me and told me my "5% goal". (They didn't know that I used to be fat--I wasn't a member)
I think it's great that you are looking to lose a few pounds NOW--it's much better than waiting until you have 100+ pounds to lose! ;)

I followed you over here when you posted a link on SP. You're story is very inspirational. It's no wonder you have so many followers and emails : ) I love reading your blogs, you're so real about everything, and honest. You're awesome Katie!

  25. Hey Katie! I'm an old reader, I have commented on your blogs both on here and on Spark. I came across your page on spark and instantly saw that you not only had come a long way, but you were doing it the right way and while having two kids and a husband in your house! You are a true inspiration! Here's my spark page: http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage.asp?id=DMARIE1181

I'm currently pregnant with my second baby so I'm not in weight loss mode but definitely trying for a much healthier pregnancy this time around and so far I'm doing good :)

Hey Katie, I'm a new reader as a result of SparkPeople featuring your very inspiring video.
I've lost 30 pounds so far with the help of SparkPeople and am super inspired by your journey as it's so close to mine (with the exception being that I have no children). And I'm from Michigan as well! I still have another 55 pounds to lose but feel more inspired know there are people like you out there so similar to me, f-bombs and all, keeping it real, being yourselves.
Thanks for keeping us inspired and WAY TO GO!

  28. I'm Sharon and I found you from the FB post. I started on spark people a year and a half ago and made some good progress losing weight then got SERIOUSLY sidetracked by a out-of-state move and major remodel (which is still going on). I managed to regain all the weight plus a few pounds and am now trying to get back on track and start over.

I joined sparkpeople in January (duxgrl1) and do not have a page yet. I saw your video then and was very inspired! I started reading your online diary then...loved it. I love your blog, PLEASE keep it up. You have given me lots of good ideas. I love the way you do not give up, and also the ways you keep trying to keep things interesting for yourself in this journey. Those things have really helped me on mhy own weight loss journey this year.

  32. I found your blog on Friday through a website entitled "The 100 best weightloss blogs for 2013". I spent ALL day on Friday (at work lol!) reading from the 2008 post onwards...and now I'm at your July 6th post. I plan on spending this week (at work lol) reading until I get to the present. You inspired me to get out friday night and run/walk (ok mostly walk) 5K. I am DETERMINED to call myself a "runner" by next summer, so I am trying to learn to run...slowly but surely I will get there, and I will you you to inspire me along the way. I have about 15-20lbs to lose in order to feel ok with myself and I have always struggled with the bingeing. Thanks for showing all of us that we are human, and we all "mess up" every once in a while. I ove reading your posts...so glad I found you.
