A perfect run!

My kids went to church with my parents this morning, and I decided to use my alone time to go for a run outside. I was getting a little worried that with all the cross-training I've been doing lately, I would have forgotten how to run! Not really, but I thought maybe I would have lost the ability to run. That doesn't make sense either. Well whatever, I wanted to test out my running legs after all the incline walking I've been doing the past few weeks.

It was the PERFECT RUN. Seriously, the best run I've ever had. Not because of my speed or distance or anything like that. Just the way my body felt while I was running, and then the way my mind felt too.

I turned into one big ball of happiness as I was running today. I thought I'd end up going about 3 miles, but I was feeling so good that I decided to keep going... and I wound up doing 6 miles. That's the farthest I've run since the half-marathon over a month ago.

Hmmm... I don't have any good pictures for this post. So I'll show you an old running picture--this was during the Ragnar Relay in August 2010.

The most unflattering running picture of me that I have. While I was running today, I was feeling pretty much the OPPOSITE of how I look in this picture :)  FYI, I was sooo hot with bad stomach cramps during that leg of my run.

The weather was perfect for a run this morning. About 55 degrees and overcast, with a nice breeze. Everything was still and quiet with the exception of tons of rabbits and squirrels going about their business. I started counting rabbits and lost count at 15! My legs were feeling so strong (maybe all the incline walking, squats, and lunges are doing some good?) and I didn't even glance at my Garmin to check my pace. I didn't care how slow I was going--I just wanted to ENJOY my run. And I did!

The whole day turned out to be gorgeous. I went for a walk with the kids later, and then read a book outside for a little while. Then I cleaned out my Jeep, which was looking really dirty on the inside. Jerry's bringing home pizza for dinner--I know, not the greatest choice, but I'm in too good of a mood to care much right now :)  And I burned 670 calories on my run today!

What is the strangest thing you've come across while exercising outside? I once got a used condom stuck to my shoe. True story.

  1. Way to go on your awesome run!
I just finished C25K yesterday. Finally. Yay! Not sure what the plan is now - I can only run about 2.3 miles in 30 minutes so I'd like to improve on that time. Not sure if I should keep running for 30 minutes and improve my speed or run 5K and improve my time. I guess it comes to the same thing ... hmmm ....
Oh, and I want a Garmin - which one do you have and would you recomend it?

Ewwww Katie. lol. I am happy you enjoyed your run. I can not wait to move back up there to enjoy the weather like that. It is 80 in the morning where I live already. Pool work outs are all I get outside anymore... LOL The strangest thing I have come across is a black kitten on the side of the path that followed me for about a mile. I love black cats I almost took it home with me.

Disgust. :) The gun had just gone off to start the Austin marathon & some deer came out of the woods & jumped in the corral w/ all the runners. Talk about one screwed up start to a marathon!!
My sister & her friends were running, while it was still dark outside, and run up on a HUGE snack crossing the sidewalk.

  5. Congrats on the run! I know what you mean about worrying that you've "lost your ability to run." Whenever I go a while without running I think the same kinds of things, but in reality you know that you'll never actually lose your ability to run, just endurance. Sounds like you didn't though!

  6. I bet that you felt great from the combination of getting stronger (from the incline AND the squats and strength training)... and getting a mental break from running outside! Since you aren't doing it over and over and over, you are able to enjoy it! (I'm that way as well!)

I used to publish ALL comments (even the mean ones) but I recently chose not to publish those. I always welcome constructive comments/criticism, but there is no need for unnecessary rudeness/hate. But please--I love reading what you have to say! (This comment form is super finicky, so I apologize if you're unable to comment)
