Week 29 Weigh-in

I ordered a new scale about a week ago, and I was hoping it would arrive before my weigh-in today, but it's supposed to get here sometime during the day today. If I like the scale, this may be the last time you see my trusty old Health O Meter ;)

Today's weigh-in:

I was at 122, so down a pound from last week. I didn't have a big appetite this week for some reason, so my calorie intake was lower, which is probably why my weight went down. My average calorie intake was 1,744. I wish I had noticed this before, but you can see a weekly view on My Fitness Pal of your calorie intake, including the average. I always calculated it by hand!

It's interesting, because I reset my goal on My Fitness Pal to maintain my weight instead of lose weight, and they increased my calories to 1,550. Are they serious?! As usual, I ignore their recommendations, and just listen to my body.

A reader recommended a weight tracker app called "Happy Scale", and it's really neat! I spent some time inputing ALL of my old weight records, so now they date back several years. But it's kind of fun to see the trends over time. Here is the month of February for me:

The little blue dots are what my weight was on that day; the green area shows where my weight was 30 days prior; and the blue line just shows the average/balances it out so you can see the trend over time. You can view this by week, month, year, and "all time", which is pretty fun to look at. You can also set up milestones (as many as you wish) if you're losing weight, so that you can focus on one thing at a time, and not get overwhelmed. It's a pretty cool app if you're into weight tracking!

I did good on my long-term goals this week:

7,000+ steps, 6+ days per week: I got them in every day except last Wednesday.

Binge-free: Today is Day 211! It's getting much, much easier now. There are some days that it doesn't even cross my mind, which is saying a lot.

New Recipe this week: I made a couple of new things. The first was Crock Pot Spaghetti, which was not very good at all. There are some things that just do not turn out well in a crock pot, and pasta is one of them. Jerry liked it, but he likes his pasta to be soft; Eli and I are all about al dente pasta.

The second recipe that I made was for 5-Ingredient Corn Casserole, and this was amazing! I LOVE corn, so I was sure to like this; but I was the only one in the family who liked it ;) I drizzled some honey on it, and it was perfect comfort food. Now I have enough leftovers in the fridge to last all week, since my family is crazy and didn't like this.

This calorie count is for 1/6 of the recipe plus honey

Overall, it was a good week! I wish I'd done better at my race, but like I said, I'm not going to hit every goal every time I try. Here's to another week of maintenance :)

  2. I am glad you mentioned the MFP has a weekly average features - I would probably never have noticed. It also suggested my goal should be 1200/day. I know that is not going to happen so I adjusted mine and as long as I am losing I will continue to adjust it.

  3. I've had that corn casserole. It's yummy!

How many years in weight records do you have? And is it like once a week? I wish I could pull mine all together, but some are in spreadsheets and some in fitbit. . . and who knows where else :(

    1. I have records back to 2006, but they don't get very regular until 2009. That's when I started weekly weigh-ins. I had to go through a few sources (spreadsheets, written journals, etc.) but it's nice to have them all in one place now.

  4. I didn't know about the weekly averages with MFP either. I am new to MFP; I used to use Fat Secret. I only stopped because MFP will synch with my FitBit.

    1. I really like MFP! It has SO much information without being overwhelming, and it's very user friendly. Hopefully you'll like it, too :)

    1. It's fun to see the number climb higher every week. I think this is the second-longest streak I've ever had!

  6. Aww I'll miss the Health-o-Meter! ;) Lol. Good job on another great week!

P.S. Did you take away the options to comment with just a name typed in? I don't mind, I just always did that since I was too lazy to complete my Google profile or whatever its called. But I did it now at least! :)

    1. Yes, it's something I've been thinking about for a while now. While I do get a lot of kind "anonymous" comments, the not-so-nice ones are almost ALWAYS from "Anonymous". My stomach would drop every time I saw I had a new comment from "Anonymous", and I realized how much anxiety it was causing me. I hated to take away that option for people, but Jerry talked me into it because he always sees the effect those comments have on me. I don't mind when people disagree with me in a tactful way; but some people are mean just to be mean, and I don't know if they realize that I am a real person with real feelings. This way, they can still be mean if they wish; but it can't be an anonymous comment anymore. Thank you for taking the time to complete your Google profile! I appreciate the comment :)

    2. I completely understand. I kind of figured that was why. People are always brave behind an anonymous computer! I think that's a good idea. I hope it helps weed out the Internet trolls just looking for a fight!

  7. Great job this week!! I think it's good to have a "bad" race in your training. Too many good days may lead to a false sense of security, in my humble opinion. :)

I can't find the weekly review option!! Is it on desktop or mobile or both? Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks Steph! To view the weekly calories, go to your food log (on the app) and scroll down to where it says "Nutrition" and tap that. From there, make sure it says "calories" at the top, and then switch the view underneath from "Day View" to "Week View". If you tap the graph, the actual totals will appear at the top of each column.

  8. I am so inspired by your weight loss! I was wondering if you know anything about tracking basal body temperature to understand how your metabolism works? I've read a few things and have been trying it out - and getting very low readings which I think means sluggish metabolism. Not sure how to fix it, so thought I'd see if you know? Anyway, keep up the good work!

  10. I use Smashrun because of you, now Happy Scale, too. I'm going to run out of space on my phone! Thanks for the app recommendations.
Was the corn casserole sweet or savory? Did you eat it as a meal or as a side?

    1. I ate it as a meal, but the recipe is written for a side. It's kind of like cornbread, which is sweet, but could also work well with savory food. I've always added honey to my cornbread (or corn fritters! yum), so I drizzled it on this as well, which made it kind of sweet.

  11. MFP is good in general but I think their calorie recommendations are pretty crazy, both for losing and maintaining. I'm glad you listen to your body and not a randomly assigned number. ~ Ruth

    1. I agree about their calorie recommendations! It's important to experiment and find out what works for us as individuals. Thanks Ruth!

  12. I TOTALLY USE HAPPY SCALE TOO!!!! 😱😱😱😱 it's taken so much anxiety out of my daily weights. I only log my loses into MFP and Happy Scale gets my dailies. Just make sure they are backed up or it's totally crushing to lose all the data! (Although it sounds like you have them backed up good.)

What is in the corn? That sounds yummy!

I'm glad your week was good. It felt good just reading it! My week has been feeling a little better and my mood has been better in comparison to the last couple of months- I'm leaving on a trip to NYC today to visit my nieces in the dorms and going to Cuba right after that. (Literally laying on the floor of the airport right now.) but yesterday I talked to my ex and found out he's planning on moving out of the country after he graduates and I had a complete melt down. I had nightmares again last night and I think I'm going to have to fly with Xanax today. Trying to do belly breaths here. I thought about going to the bar but it's literally 9am. I don't like the idea of possibilities being taken away and doors closing and that news effectively does that. So. Corn. I'm torn between wanting to eat all day and loathing how I looked fat. Not that I'm happy now either. Lol I am smuggling In n Out burgers across the country for my nieces! Always a fun favor!!! 😊

I used to publish ALL comments (even the mean ones) but I recently chose not to publish those. I always welcome constructive comments/criticism, but there is no need for unnecessary rudeness/hate. But please--I love reading what you have to say! (This comment form is super finicky, so I apologize if you're unable to comment)
