Michelob ULTRA Light Cider Review

I've mentioned a few times now that my very favorite thing to do in the summertime is to sit on the back deck with Jerry, chatting over cold beers, while the kids play in the backyard. We get to talk without distractions and just enjoy each others company.

Jerry is definitely a beer connoisseur, trying every different beer he can get his hands on, but I always stick with a light lager. I don't like anything heavy, or dark, or "hoppy" or any of that mumbo jumbo that Jerry talks about when he talks beer.

It would be nice to change it up once in a while, however. So when I was asked to review the new Michelob ULTRA Light Cider, of course I jumped at the chance! When I was in college, I didn't like beer, so I used to drink hard cider--but it was hard to drink more than one, because they were so thick and almost syrupy.

From the first sip of the Michelob ULTRA Light Cider, I knew that "thick and syrupy" wouldn't be a problem. It was very light, crisp, and "sparkly". Even though it's an apple cider, it tasted very summery to me. It almost reminded me of a sparkling white wine, only with a crisp apple taste.

It definitely fits into my daily calories--it's only 120 calories per bottle, so about the same as a light beer. It's actually gluten-free, too, which surprised me. I don't know much about gluten, but it seems like it's in just about everything. It's sweetened with stevia, which I liked--I'm not a fan of artificial sweeteners (I don't like the taste)--and stevia is one no-cal sweetener that I actually don't mind.

So anyway, the Light Cider is definitely a nice change of pace to the beer I'm used to in the summer. It kind of reminds me of a girly drink, but not as "foo foo" as, say, a wine cooler ;) (Not that I really care what people think about what I drink--hello, boxed wine!) But I honestly really liked it, and would certainly buy it again.

De-stressing on the deck with Jerry on summer evenings works for me... Which favorite summer meal or activity do you think would go best with Michelob ULTRA Light Cider? One of the serving suggestions is to pour it over ice--I bet that would be good too!

  1. That actually sounds pretty good to me, and I'm not a beer drinker AT ALL. I have to say, though, that I LOVE that dress! You look FABULOUS in it--that color just looks fantastic on you!! Everything about that picture says, "Summer!!" :D

  2. I hope you don't turn into one of those bloggers who has a lot of sponsor posts, because they get annoying quick.

  5. I like your dress :) Hard cider sounds yummy right now! I love enjoying a drink in the summer. Especially at a restaurant that has patio seating on a nice night! I like beer but I'm not too adventurous. I also don't like dark beers too much, but anything light or fruity is good to me!

  8. You look way cute lounging on the deck than I ever do!! :) I can usually be found in my polka-dot pajama pants and tank top. It's kind of a uniform. Ok, not kind of. It is.

Anyway, that looks SUPER YUM! I am exactly like you - no thanks on most beers and I NEVER drank it in college. Thank God I've started to like (cheap) wine over the years.

I'm sure that after this great review, Michelob will send you a case to give away to one lucky reader! Right? Right? :)

    1. This happened to be the day that my little brother and his girlfriend came over for dinner, so usually I look far from cute ;)

I was hoping for a giveaway too, but I guess legally, that would cause some issues!

  9. Look at you in your pretty dress.

I may have to give that a try. Not a big fan of overly sweet so maybe this would fix me up - plus 120 calories... like a glass of wine. I'd like to have a change up from beer - I cannot stand light beer so the calories....blah.

  10. I think it is worth a try for the lower calories, so I might give it a shot. As far as hard cider goes though I love Woodchuck brand hard cider personally. Their amber and 802 are awesome. Neither seem syrupy or thick to me and the 802 tastes like it has a hint of caramel in there. Mmmm...caramel apple cider. :)

Thanks for posting this though. I am always up for trying something new!

  11. I love your dress! :)

I've been drinking Bud Select 55 for awhile now, but I'll have to give that a try. Sounds good!

    1. You'll probably like it! The cider has the same lightness of the 55, but a MUCH better flavor in my opinion.

  12. Hey Katie - Just wanted to say you look great! And for any negative Nancy's about your sponsored posts - don't worry about it! Anyone that has been reading your blog for a while knows that financially the posts help....plus you are very honest in your opinions! AND - you spend time each day writing this blog that keeps the rest of us amused, so who are we to judge, right!!

    1. Thanks for that :) I would never do a sponsored post for something I didn't already enjoy, so I hope that my regular readers know that. Actually, I bought this cider to try out BEFORE I agreed to do the review--I wanted to make sure I liked it first, so I could write an honest opinion!

But I don't plan on doing a lot of sponsored posts--just ones that really interest me (like this one--how fun to review an adult beverage, lol). Thanks for understanding :)

  13. I love that dress! Green is a very good color on you :) Original Sin is another really good cider. I love apple and pear ciders in the summer heat, they're so refreshing!

  14. That definitely looks refreshing!!! Yum!! I want to try it.

  15. It doesn't really sound like something I would like. I'm more of a regular lager drinker.

  16. Do you think someone who normally doesn't like any kind of beer would like that?

    1. It's worth trying! It's not beer, so it doesn't taste anything like beer. The best way I can describe it is like a carbonated apple juice, but not nearly as sweet or syrupy as apple juice. (That's probably a terrible description, sorry!)

  17. I love hard cider - especially Pear in the summer. I saw ads for this 'lite' version. I think I'll give it a try - I like to drink something lighter in the summer and this sounds perfect! Thanks for your review. Cheers!

  18. I'm gonna give it a try - with the latest revelations that I am, in fact, gluten intolerant - this could be a nice BBQ / summer beverage for me!
