High-maintenance

I (finally) got my Under Armour shipment today. Remember how I was looking for the "slash" capris for my marathon? I couldn't find any in stock at any of the stores around here (I tried two Dunham's, and three Dick's), so I had to order them online. I also ordered a yellow top to match.

This is the back of the outfit
I love the capris! They are super cute and comfy. But I can't wear the top :(  It's the perfect match as far as the yellow goes; but I don't have the body to wear a very light-colored top like that. You can see my lumps and bumps and it makes me feel self-conscious. Since it is a "fitted" shirt (which runs smaller than the other UA shirts I have), I ordered a medium. But even a medium fits pretty snugly. It would be fine if it was black, but with a see-through color like yellow, I don't want it to be snug. I wish that I had been able to order the blue or green, but they were out of stock even on the website.

After I tried the yellow stuff on, I decided to go to our local Dunham's and see what I could find there. They actually had the slash capris in stock! They had the orange color and the gray color. They had one size small left of the orange, so I bought them. I found a matching shirt, and got that too. I will just return the yellow items online.

When I got home and tried them on, the capris felt a little loose going on. I looked at the tag, and they said medium--they were on the wrong fucking hanger at the store. I could probably get by with them, but I don't want to have to keep tugging on the back of them, pulling them up if they droop. So tomorrow I will go back to Dunham's to return them. If they have the gray ones in my size, I might get those. I really do like them! I just wanted to buy a complete outfit.

Now I'm clueless as to what I'll wear for the marathon. I might just wear my go-to outfit of my black UA capris and top, and throw a sparkle skirt over it. Or maybe I'll dig out that purple shirt I made with my name on the front, and have never worn.

I have NEVER been "that girl", who frets over what to wear--particularly when I run! I'm always mismatched, wearing whatever is most comfortable. But for my first and only marathon, I wanted to have a cute outfit for pictures. I just shouldn't have waited until the last two weeks to figure it out.

(Speaking of Under Armour, the UA giveaway for the $500 gift card ends on the 21st, so if you haven't yet entered, you can do so on this post.)

I've had a bad couple of days with my eating. I've been feeling stressed out and a little depressed, and I've used food to make me feel better. I'm glad that I at least recognize that, and I'm not making excuses. It's just hard to stop! I've been eating two large bowls of cereal as a snack. I never used to be a cereal person when I was overweight; but now, I could go through an entire box of cereal in one day. I don't want it to turn into one of the things I can't keep in the house, so I really need to watch it.

I'm a little nervous about going to Cleveland--not just for the marathon, but because of the food. I always gain weight on trips (even 10 pounds in a weekend), and I don't want that to have a big effect on my race performance. My plan is to eat intuitively, focusing on carbs, with as little grease as possible. Not much fiber, either. I don't want any tummy issues on race day! We have reservations at Buca di Beppo for Saturday night--so I will carb load, but not too much. The only good thing about being so nervous is that I probably won't have much of an appetite.

We're coming home immediately after the race on Sunday, which is probably for the best. I'm not expecting to feel like walking around the city doing touristy stuff! ;)  Jerry and I have been to Cleveland a few times, and we really liked it. That's why I was excited to do the Cleveland marathon. Gosh, I can't wait until Monday! ;)

  1. Since you already have one, I would wear the shirt with your name on it....the extra crowd cheer will help you through. Those capris are super cute! Target has quite a few shirts that color in stock right now, a lot of the semi-fitted styles too.

  2. I think you should wear the shirt with your name on it - stamp your name on the marathon LOL! I like capris for my cycle pants, too. I wear the bike shorts in the summer, but they have elastic bands on the bottom so they don't ride up, which can be a little sausage looking :D That's why I like the capris.

  4. I'm really not "that girl" either but on race days I have the desire to look decent at least so I get where you're coming from LOL. I like those slash capris. I would like them even better in orange I think :) How fun! Hopefully they'll have the correct size in a color you're happy with. But the shirt with your name would be really fun to wear on race day!!

Just a little longer! How exciting :)

  6. I am so excited about your marathon - I'm bursting.

    Those capris are very cute.

I hate fitted shirts that emphasize the lumps and bumps… i like a little room, especially in lighter colors.

I also hate when things are on the wrong sized hangers! That's happened to me and it always pisses me off.

Something must be in the air, I've been eating too much the last few days too. Gotta reign shit in…

Hope you pull together the perfect marathon day outfit!! :D

  7. I know a ton of people have said it in the past few days, but you did all of the training and you made it through. You will do GREAT! I know how you feel about the stress-eating. I have been doing the same thing lately. While I realize that a) I am doing it and b) why I'm doing it, I can't seem to get a good grip on it. I know you can do it, though. You haven't made it this far to give up! Good luck on Sunday. We'll all be anxiously awaiting the results!!

  8. I'm training for my first 5k and my reward for myself is to buy a running outfit closer to the date :)

  9. So excited to hear all about your marathon! You have me addicted to Under Armour now. I must go to that post and enter. I've been hesitating and need to do it now. The slash capris are super cute!

  10. Super cute! Can't wait to hear all about it! Fyi: I bought cookie butter today. May have been a mistake...I took a few spoonfuls out! Yummy! :)

  11. I like the outfit but I get your concern. That sucks that your new capri's were the wrong size! I hope you end up feeling good about your outfit and confident. I'm nervous and excited for you and I can't wait to hear how it goes! : )

  12. I can't wait until I can wear workout clothes like this. Right now it is plus size yoga pants (really plus size) and a shirt that does its best to hide some pretty big bumps. Last week I had a major Non Scale Victory - I conquered a hike that everyone said that at 404 lbs. I couldn't do...but I did it...it was my second try and it hurt, but I EFFING did it! I was wearing a not flattering outfit (as the hike went on it just looks worse in the photos). BUT, one day I will make that hike with a cute little workout outfit on a fit, 3/4 my size body!

Can't wait to read about the marathon! I know you are going to do amazing!

BTW, LOVE your new before/after! Just love it!

Katie, this is getting so exciting!!! I LOVE those slash capris and hope you find the right size (so annoying about the hanger!). I totally agree with you on the top - if something shows all my bumps and lumps, I NEVER feel comfortable. And you definitely want to be comfortable on Sunday! You are going to be great. We are cheering for you!

  14. Could you not run with a bathing suit on underneath it? May sound silly but it really does help smooth out those lumps we'd rather not show. It seems such a shame to not be able to wear it.
As for those capris - they're gorgeous! I've never seen anything like them over here.

Good luck and I hope you get it all figured out.

    1. It's supposed to be 81 degrees--so I really need to dress as minimally as possible! I'll come up with something, I'm sure ;)

  15. Katie I am sorry to hear about the clothing issues. I completely understand about a new outfit for your marathon. Hang in there and you will find one.
Cereal has become an issue for me lately also. I have eaten a whole box of peanut butter puffins in 2 days, that is not good for me at all and I have 3 more boxes just sitting in my pantry. Dangerous for sure!

  16. You probably look fantastic but still have that wonky super-critical body image thing we all seem to be stuck in! I think you should wear your Runs For Cookies shirt, too.

My stomach is all knotty thinking about your marathon, and I'm not running it! I thought of a few places you could go since watching Anthony Bourdain's trip to Cleveland on 'No Reservations.' Have you been to Skyline Chili? It seems they make Cleveland's signature dish, chili over spaghetti with a TON of cheddar cheese on top. DEFINITELY not what you want to eat BEFORE the marathon!

  17. HOW is it possible that you have lumps and bumps? I'm so confused! I really would like to see a photo of those capris on you once you have a pair you are keeping. From the back of course! I wanna see what they look like :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. I would steer clear of Skyline, it's okay, but to us it's fast food.

Check out the Westside Market! It's a huge farmers market and you can get tons of yummy fresh foods. Be careful with the crepe stand (they are OUT of this world) and they gyro place.

Best of luck, I'll be thinking of you (I'm here in Cleveland) Supposed to be a lovely day, but they did say we will be humid. Quite the change from the 39 I woke up to this morning.

Oh and the slash capri's? ADORABLE!

    You're such an inspiration....

  19. Oh yeah, Katie you can get a nutella and banana crepe at the West Side Market after the race! Ymmmmmmmmmm......

    1. That's one of my favorites! I always want to get the savory ones, but Nutella wins every time!

  20. Good luck. I'm excited for you. I ran my second 1/2 a couple weeks ago and now have the itch for a full.

I understand the food. That is my problem in general. I have that last 10lbs to lose, but I always munch and mess up my food dairy. Oh it's frustrating.

I love the capris. You will look great no matter what you wear

  21. I love those capris! I totally want a pair in pink. I also have curves that look better in darker colors than light, so I know how that goes!

  22. Love those capris! I am nervous also! Carrie.

  23. Im with you on the tight light colored shirts. That outfit is super cute & a black shirt would look great!

I can't get that song "Black and Yellow" out of my head now!!

    Good Luck on Sunday!!

  24. I'm so excited for you!! I love that you're so open about your struggles as well as your successes. It makes you that much more relatable and I really appreciate that.

Go get 'em this weekend!!! I'll be sending good vibes your way!

  25. I love the way the slash capris look with the yellow! I do understand about being self concisous thought. Do great at your marathon! My friends and hubby that have run one said it was very emotional for them when they crossed their first full marathon finish line! Go get em!

  26. I love the capris! Maybe just team them up with a solid tee or don't match perfectly. Your pics will be from the front :) the slash capris are amazing! Maybe a running store in cleveland will have them and you can get them put on hold till you get there?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Very cute oufit! I wear tanks under my shirts so my lumps and bumps don't show! Just an idea. Maybe get a wicking tank! The yellow is a lot of fun!

  28. Mmmmm, Buca di Beppo...Nummy! I know what you mean about tummy issues and wanting to avoid that. My biggest fear is I'll have to go to the bathroom in the middle of a race and there is no porta potty!

    I saw those capris at our local running store with red slashes, and almost bought them, but my loose skin and a bit of fatty rolls have the top of the pants rolling down :o{

I get the whole cereal thing. My favorite right now is Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and if I am stress eating, it's hard not to eat as much of it as I can! And we have to have cereal in the house, so I have been having to watch that as well. SO excited about your marathon experience (you'll find me repeating that a lot!!!)
