Inadvertent intervals

I woke up this morning with high hopes that my feet would be completely back to normal and I would be injury-free... but that wasn't the case :(  My feet were still hurting in a way that didn't feel like normal aches and pains. I sent Jessica a text that I was going to take another rest day (I was supposed to do a 3-mile interval run).

I got the kids ready for school and once they got on the bus, I had breakfast. I made Lori's One-Minute Muffin (yet again), only I used cocoa powder instead of cinnamon to make it a chocolate muffin. YUM! I spread it with Nutella and it was a very satisfying (and filling) breakfast.

I had made plans to meet Andrea, who I only knew as a friend of Jessica's, for coffee at 10. Andrea said she was interested in blogging, and wanted to learn a little about it, so of course I was happy to discuss! As I was getting ready to head out the door at 9:30, I noticed that Noah left his snack on the counter. It was his turn to bring in a snack for his entire class. I grabbed it and flew out the door, planning on bringing it to the school before meeting Andrea.

Of course I forgot my laptop (which I was going to bring to show some stuff to Andrea) and I forgot my cell phone. I got to the school and ran across the parking lot to drop off the snack--and I realized that I truly was RUNNING and it wasn't very painful at all. I was really excited about that! I hope that I'm not injured after all and maybe I'm just sore.

I jumped back into the Jeep and headed to the coffee shop to meet Andrea. I had hoped that I would have enough time to stop at the grocery store and buy her a jar of Biscoff spread (a.k.a. cookie butter), because Jessica told me she wanted to try it. It was 9:56 as I was driving past the grocery store, and at the last second I turned in. I sprinted out of the car and across the parking lot, into the store, and to the back (of course); grabbed the Biscoff spread, sprinted back to the front of the store and paid, then booked it back to the Jeep. It was 9:58.

I arrived at the coffee shop at 10:01, so I was only a minute late--and totally worth it, considering I came bearing cookie butter!! ;)

I had decaf coffee, and this time I believe it really was decaf, because I felt just fine. I chatted with Andrea for about an hour and then came home. I couldn't get the cookie butter off of my mind, and the jar in the pantry was taunting me. I caved, and ate it by the spoonful out of the jar. I was mad at myself, so before I polished the whole thing off, I poured some dish soap in it and threw the rest in the trash.

I guess I proved that I can't have cookie butter in the house just yet. I'm doing great with the Nutella! And I hadn't even touched the cookie butter, until today. Oh well, lesson learned.

I think I'll be good to go for running tomorrow. I haven't decided if I'm going to do 3 miles of intervals or a 6-mile easy run. I'd kind of like to do intervals one last time before my 5K on Sunday, but I'm afraid of messing up my feet. I'm glad that Monday is our step-back week (our long run is only 10 miles, rather than increasing from the 13 we just did).

Wow--I never thought I'd say "only 10 miles" when referring to running... see what marathon training has done to me?! ;)

  1. Hope you feet make a full recovery. Just wait until you are saying I only have to do 18 this week, I never thought I would ever say such things either.....Finished my last 22 mile run this week is only 18 and marathon is on the 18th! Good for you for getting rid of the cookie butter I wish I could have done that with the mocha brownie I got from Whole Foods. lol Good luck on your 5k this weekend.

  2. Man, that exhausted me just reading it! So is Trader Joe's never making cookie butter again? I look for it every time. I have a half a thing of Biscoff spread in the basement from Christmas. Everyone was so over the moon for the cookie butter and I could never find it after hearing the chatter. Is it just the same thing as the Biscoff?

Hope your foot cooperates on your run! :)

    1. Wait a minute... you lost me at "I have half a thing of Biscoff spread in the basement from Christmas..."

As in THREE MONTHS that has been there, and you haven't eaten it yet?! I wish I had your strength! Yep, the Biscoff is the exact same thing as the TJ's cookie butter. I've tried both, of course ;)

    2. I found the Biscoff cookies at Walgreens and keep snarfing them down. Haen't been able to find the Cookie Butter at TJ's yet although I heard a rumor it was back on the shelf. Probably already out by now, and I'm not sure I should have it in my house anyway. I DO love those Biscoff cookies! But I try to refrain from eating the whole bag at one time. I understand binging cause I ate an entire regular-sized bag of Barbecue Pop Chips on Saturday. It was 360 calories and delicious! I evened it out by eating salad with low-fat dressing for lunch. At least that's how I justified it in my own mind.

  3. The words "cookie butter" makes me drool....I need a bib. If I had it in the house I'm would have no self control. I do however L-O-V-E Nutella! LOVE LOVE LOVE it.
I hope your feet are feeling better soon!

  4. Cookie Butter...gahh. I'm afraid to even taste it I might love it too much! I'm hoping that inadvertent sprint today was telling you that your tootsies were just sore. I know it's really thrown a wrench in your plans!

  5. I didn't realize your title actually had "inadvertent" in it! I felt so smart using it, and now we know great minds think alike!!!! <3

  6. I remember "only" running 10 miles in my marathon training, too. Now (pregnant with number 3) running feels like a distant memory. I like reading your blog and living vicariously through other runners!

  8. I need to try this cookie butter magic! I am the same way with frosting. If I get mad cravings for frosting that don't go away, I will let myself buy a container, have a couple spoonfuls, then pour salt in it and throw it away! I learned my lesson when my roommate and I thought we'd be good and throw away a half-empty container of frosting, but we left the light on. We stood over that trash can for about 15 minutes, wondering how disgusting it would be to pull that container back out and finish the frosting up. Luckily, her boyfriend solved the problem for us by shooing us away and dumping used coffee grounds in the trash can!

  9. i just finished this post and i have to say i was so disappointed when i got to the end. there was no link for "newer post". i'm all caught up on your blog. this makes me really sad because i've been reading multiple posts most every day for the last couple of months since i found your blog and now i can't do that anymore. anyway i guess now is as good a time as any to tell you that i love your blog and you've inspired me to start running. something i absolutely never ever ever thought i would do. i'm just a beginner at a month into it but so far the love/hate relationship is going well. so thank you!

  11. I hope your feet are back to normal allowing you your run tomorrow. I haven't tried any of the above (even the Nutella) Guess it's time to come out of my cave and give them a try. The other day I had cookies that did not turn out. Tasted great but looked awful. Since I had to take them somewhere I hurried and made another batch. I couldn't stay out of the first batch so I ran water and soap over them too. My kids were severly disappointed when they came home from school and saw the ruined deliciousness.

  12. Hi Katie,

Have you ever tried this chocolate hazelnut butter? It's a much healthier alternative to Nutella (which I love!) since it doesn't have a ton of added sugar (just 7 grams per serving) and is all-natural.

Just thought you might be interested! All the best!

  13. Hi Katie, wow...you sure were a runnin' woman. Hope your foot feels better soon. I HAVE to try the Biscoff spread at some point. We don't get it here in Canada, but next time I do some cross border shopping, I'll zip through the grocery store and pick some up. Have a great Thursday.

  15. Ha! My running group and I said the same thing last weekend because we did 10 miles!!!! We have 14 this Sunday!!!! It's fun that we are running a similar schedule!!! I think I would do the same thing with the cookie butter, so I am glad that no stores near me carry it!!!!

  16. Oh my goodness, you threw it away. I completely understand as I ate and ate out of the jar you brought me yesterday. It is so yummy. But I told myself I can only have some today if I get my 12 mile run in, but the weather looks bad and I think it would be a miserable run. Hoping it will just stop raining long enough to run. Good luck with your run today. Hope your foot is feeling much better.

  17. Remember when I told you I had the Biscoff cookies for the first time that they reminded me of Archway's windmill cookies? Well, while shopping in Dollar Tree the other day, they had Lil Dutch Maid Almond Windmill cookies (for $1!) and they taste almost exactly like them! AND there were a lot more cookies in the package. The calorie count was the same, as well! They are now hiding out in MY cabinet!

  18. Have you tried rolling a tennis or lacross ball under your foot? I had a lot of issues last year with my feet and I had suspected it was tendenitis so when I was at home I'd sit and roll the ball under my foot. it HURTS SO GOOD lol but will work out if there is an issue.

    Hope it helps :)

  19. ONLY 10 miles??!! Holy Cow Katie, you're a running machine. Be sure to tell Andrea to JUST READ your blog. It's fantastic and that's the best way to learn about blogging--to read lots and lots of GOOD blogs like yours! And Success Along the Weigh, and Fricking Fabulous at 40 and Czesia's blog, etc. etc. Oh....I just noticed Andrea's comment, so I guess she is already reading. Isn't Katie great, Andrea???

  20. That statement about "only 10 miles" is hilarious! I was talking to a coworker who started running races with me and will be running the 25k with me on Saturday, and I referred to a run as "only 10 miles". We both got a kick out of that! Even though 10 miles is still a hard run, when you start thinking about half marathons, 25ks and full marathons.... 10 miles seems like a piece of cake! ;)I'm glad that someone else feels that way! Although I'm sure it's easier for you to run 10 miles than me by far!

  21. Pleased to hear the foot is ok! Man you flew around town like a pro today! Can we call you supermom? :) The other day I had planned to run 7 miles and clean up the house, but after my run I read a book for an hour when my bf called. I said, "omg, I haven't done anything today, just my run" and he was like, "I wish you from 2 months ago can hear you calling a 7 mile run nothing" haha!
